Well, I have now had doubt cast on my original answer by my daughter-in-law, and her response has made me realize that I believe there are two possible answers to the puzzle. It doesn’t seem like anybody has mentioned this in all of the comments, which really surprises me. I’ve already submitted, so it won’t make any difference, but I’d love to chat with somebody about it.

Thought of The Turtles immediately as they (well, at least two of them) lived in my area when I was growing up . Just couldn't figure out how 'turtles' could be turned into a 5 letter word!cbarbee002 wrote: Sat Feb 26, 2022 10:30 am Does anyone else have this song stuck in their heads? Me too.
If I should call you up, invest a dime
And you say you belong to me and ease my mind
Imagine how the world could be, so very fine
So happy together
The year I graduated from high school. What's my age again...well that's another song for another era.

Or for crying out loud... ashore.
I had the mechanism AND the answer on Thursday, but couldn't see it staring me right in the face. I "wrote" an insomnia-driven, imaginary email last night to my friendly muggle helper, outlining what we'd worked on, when wham! Like a Monty Python foot crashing down I had the answer. Pfft.
Thinking about learning how to drink Scotch tonight.
Have a safe weekend all.

Long ago I was told that Flo and Eddie wrote this one as a joke, and were a bit surprised at its commercial success. Fact check, please?rosiegirl wrote: Sat Feb 26, 2022 1:36 pmThought of The Turtles immediately as they (well, at least two of them) lived in my area when I was growing up . I really over thought this one. I laughed at the crazy rabbit holes I went down before realizing the simplicity. I am ashore and I will have 2 margaritas.

On shore! Went down one rabbit hole and happy that I didn't give up and ask for a nudge! Very clever and fun puzzle (now that I found the answer!)

I’m stuck. Just not seeing it, and could use a nudge. But this post makes me think of my Great Aunt in Jackson, MI, who on Fat Tuesday would make 6,000 Paczkis in the kitchen of the Catholic school our family attended. It means a big community thing, and even at 90 years old she was there to supervise and participate.Ergcat wrote: Fri Feb 25, 2022 5:08 pmWhen I lived in Central PA ( Hershey) Fat or Shrove Tuesday was called “ Fasnacht Day” . Fastnachts (pronounced /ˈfastnaxt/ in German) are doughnuts. There are three types of Fasnacht, one made with yeast, one made with baking powder, and one made with potatoes and yeast. All are slightly crispy on the outside and not as sweet as standard doughnuts.HunterX wrote: Fri Feb 25, 2022 2:51 pmOoo... Do I smell the aroma of a Muggle controversy baking? How do you spell fried rings of dough caked in sugar, icing, sprinkles, and other delicious toppings? Is there a "correct" way? (Don't let your eyes glaze over now...)whimsy wrote: Fri Feb 25, 2022 9:18 am
I learn great stuff here!
(And certainly, learning something that gives me an excuse to have a donut is great!)
But isn't National Doughnut Day the first Friday in June in America? Not that you can't eat doughnuts any day. Just because there are only 20 National and International Wine Days in 2022 doesn't mean I'm not drinking wine the other 345 days!
And when I lived in Chicago, Fat Tuesday was “Paczki Day” a day to eat the Polish “doughnuts” or paczki —- round Polish pastry similar to a filled doughnut, usually filled with fruit and topped with sugar.
Now I live in SC and I don’t see any doughnut eating traditions for Shrove Tuesday…. Hmmm, I’m going to eat doughnuts any way!
I miss those Paczkis.

Look forward to the second-answer-reveal on Monday. The metanism I saw, pretty much instantly, gave an answer that was a 100%'er. So I never bothered looking for another.Streroto wrote: Sat Feb 26, 2022 1:31 pm Well, I have now had doubt cast on my original answer by my daughter-in-law, and her response has made me realize that I believe there are two possible answers to the puzzle. I am now doubting my first answer. Going over it with a friend we realized that there was another answer which appears more solid. One way or another I'm onshore....but serious doubt on the mug
Have a nice weekend everyone.

I am curious to read of at least two muggles who have found two answers that seem to fit the puzzle I felt my answer was pretty solid.....but I guess I have to wait until tomorrow night to find out if I am correct.

Dunno if it’s true, but Flo and Eddie had a wickedly sarcastic sense of humor. I saw them at a concert in the 80s in Philly and chatted with them after the show and they were hilarious. I remember them starting their set with Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” but then stopped halfway through, saying “just kidding”.John77 wrote: Sat Feb 26, 2022 2:01 pmLong ago I was told that Flo and Eddie wrote this one as a joke, and were a bit surprised at its commercial success. "I'd like to clean you boys up a bit and make you as big as the Turtles" - from an old Mothers of Invention album notes...ahh the 60's (not my current age bracket 60's)
Speaking of clean up needed...I need to clean up the mess I've made with this meta. (shouldn't have taken the brown acid)
Any help would be groovy.
