Since I am tired of typing "shore" and since this is Super Bowl weekend and many of you are going to watch the game either as a nonfootball spouse or with a nonfootball spouse, I am posting a PSA based on 52 years of trying to teach my wife about football.

1) they wear helmets and not hats
2) they wear uniforms and not suits
3) they wear cleats and not shoes
4) it is the Bengals playing and not the Tigers. The Tigers are a Detroit baseball team
5) offensive players can not tackle the defensive players
6) don't ask on a kickoff why all the players are running in the same direction
7) listen to the announcers, sometimes they actually say something of value - not often but sometimes
8) pay enough attention to know when they are playing a replay vs live TV
9) don't ask for an explanation when the officials are trying to sort things out
10) if you want to understand what happened and someone backs up the DVR to show you, pay attention

If I got a $1 for every time I said that to my wife I would be sending my meta answers from a mansion in the Caribbeans

Required pre-game reading for sure. Many thanks.

While my spouse's football IQ is higher than most, it's the overtime rules that furrow her brow....and consequently, mine. Perhaps those could be an honorable mention to your list.

Go Pats!!

My wife cares nothing about football. She grew up in SF in the 70's, and for years she used to ask about the Oakland Raiders. And I would remind her, no it's the LA Raiders now. By the time she got used to that, i had to tell her no, it's the Oakland Raiders again. Eventually she got used to that, but now I have to tell her it's the Las Vegas Raiders. She at the point now where she stops asking,

Bob cruise director wrote: Fri Feb 11, 2022 10:17 pm This is a special for @Wendy Walker and others that are not interested in the Super Bowl.

Here are some of the things more unusual things you can bet on - these are called props so you can impress your spouse/significant other who thinks you know nothing

And there are probably many more but you could casually mention that you put $100 on one of these bets to shock everyone.
I don’t think you really understand the psychology of us non-sports people. If I tell a sports fan that I bet that “an offensive lineman score a TD” they’ll want to discuss what an offensive lineman is and how likely he might score and such. Yawn. If I just say, “Good luck. Hope your team gets lots of home runs,” they’ll roll their eyes and change the subject to something we’re both interested in.

I am curious though about some of the things people bet on that don’t seem random. For those related to actually playing the game, I assume the incentives to play as well as possible are greater than the incentives to make a particular bet work out. But the guy who buys the Gatorade? Couldn’t he make a tidy profit by getting the right color - enough to risk getting fired if caught?
If you want help with a meta, feel free to PM me. The more specific you are about what you have and what you want, the more likely I can help without spoiling.

(And if I help you win a mug, I’ll be especially delighted.)

I got so dizzy trying to solve last week’s meta that I went under swimming in circles but I am happy to say I am now sitting on the beach with the widest of grins 😉 after finishing the grid and meta last night and composing my two part salute this morning. Somehow I see a theme emerging.

Oh my gosh, I'll have to try that some day!

On shore.

Just started this morning, crossword and meta done in 10 minutes. Never saw last week's, head-slapper upon seeing the solution (I was a software engineer no less).

That is absolutely miserable. If you haven't tried the Epley Maneuver, it's worth a shot. https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/ ... y-maneuver

Nlobb wrote: Fri Feb 11, 2022 5:26 pm I wondered if anyone ever gets the wordle on try 2. I am always happy to get it on the 3rd row like today.
But then, I was happy to solve the meta on a Thursday on page 6!!!
I’ve read many folks start with ADIEU, so that would have given U__E_.
Today’s Wordle not unimaginable from that perspective?
Until NYT erased my stats, I think I had a few solves on the second try.
I do use a different beginning word every day just for the variety.

But for all the engineers on here, is anyone else doing the Mathler? <https://www.mathler.com/>
It offers easy, medium, and hard levels and is almost as much fun as wordle.
