No crying, please. Just stories.
As in baseball, is there no crying in metas?

After an evening of questioning everything I learned in elementary school, I am finally ashore. This was a very tough one!

I would contend that I did notice something important on this one that led to being rather useful.

The online puzzle is up!

https://www.wsj.com/puzzles/crossword/20231013/30109/

I dreamed I solved it last night. No idea though if I really did. Unlike my usual meta dreams, that turn out to be totally unrelated to the actual puzzle, I have no memory of the dream solution or idea of the real waking one.
If you want help with a meta, feel free to PM me. The more specific you are about what you have and what you want, the more likely I can help without spoiling.

(And if I help you win a mug, I’ll be especially delighted.)

Well, I don't think you are going to get many stories this week as the most common rabbit hole is probably that every body is going to do exact what it seems like they are supposed to, what seems like the only thing one *can* do, and it will, of course, not work.

Well, the on-line puzzle has been fixed.

So I redid it all online this morning. You know how sometimes redoing the puzzle on a fresh screen or surface allows you to note things you missed? Yeah, me neither.

Ashore4us, finally, after quite a mental struggle. Ahh, it is now after noon, so a pub lunch with Smithwick's Red Ale will be in order. A grilled ham and cheese sandwich, please! And, it's a bit chilly here on the north coast so a fire in the fireplace will do the trick.

Cheers to all!

Ashore, but only with an assist (for the 3rd week in a row -- must be losing my touch). At least there's plenty of beer left at the tiki bar.

Still on the ship, but Isaac makes pretty good mocktails.

Seems like it should be an “easy” one but just not seeing it. Guess there’ll be an AHA for a lot of people on the zoom

Friday afternoon report from your cruise director pro tem.

Patrick Berry has thrown Muggledom for quite a loop this week with his Friday the Thirteenth offering. The shore party is considerably smaller than usual at this point in the week, but Meg's Cabana Boy is still making himself useful, what with fetching cocktails, distributing leis, and setting up tonight's lavish luau. Making it to shore are Meg (#1 on the leaderboard; well done!), Streroto, Cindy, TJ Brenner, Boharr, OldJudge, ReB, LittleGood, Flying Burrito, Chris Kochmanski, Mirage, HeadinHome, Docison, Aschubert, Mheberling x100, AJK, Tina, MMe, Jace54, JoePickett, Trish, Ky-Mike, Toby, Femullen, Zach, Adajeo, Ship4U, DelanQ, Schmidzy, Matthew L.

Huge congratulations to newcomer Mirage for a page-one finish! It's great to have you on the Forum!

Declaring themselves on the ship with Isaac are Lbray53, Woozy, MajordomoTom, Clonefitz, Ergcat, Dr. Tom, Whimsy, Barbara K, Nycerjohnnie, and SamKat9, though I have it on good authority that there are many, many others staring at their clipboards or devices. I can't tell from his posts if Mikey G is on ship or shore.

The 4:30 Eastern Zoom session this afternoon will doubtless be well attended. Please join us! Just click on "Muggle Zoom Room" at the top of this page.
Good luck, fellow Muggles!

Isaac is really working hard serving this group at the bar. Hope to make the zoom if I can tear myself away from Isaac
