"Party Animals" by BarbaraK

Formerly known as the “Sunday Summer Substitute”, editor Cap'n Rick now takes the helm for 'Smooth Sailing Sundays'. As The Commodores sang about Sunday morning, the SSS will focus on easier metas. SSS will also support smaller grids and will mentor new constructors on request. Puzzles released each Sunday around 8am Eastern. Nudges released same day at Noon Eastern. New constructors are welcome.

Good morning, muggles!

It’s Sunday and it’s summer, so it must be time for the Sunday Summer Substitute! And this week, it’s a meta by… me! My first. Hope you enjoy it! I think the meta will be easy, but I’ve heard that before from other constructors, so guess we’ll just have to see. Nudges will be posted around noon, and of course you can PM me any time.

Thanks to Peter @Abide for his super meta mentoring. He walked me step by step through the construction process with suggestions along the way that made this a much better puzzle.

Thanks to @Wendy Walker, who was the first to hear about and encourage this idea and was the final test solver.

Thanks @Joe Ross for creating the pdf and xlsx files and uploading everything to this site.

And thanks to everyone who gives it a try!

If you want help with a meta, feel free to PM me. The more specific you are about what you have and what you want, the more likely I can help without spoiling.

(And if I help you win a mug, I’ll be especially delighted.)

How wonderful it's been to watch Barbara's first puzzle come into existence, from her first inklings of an idea to the clever meta you see here. Well done, my friend!
Good luck, fellow Muggles!

It's looking like this is indeed playing easy. But maybe there are people too shy to say they need a nudge. So just in case, here are some that should help you get there.

This is not one of those metas where you derive a letter or two from each theme entry.

Each theme entry has two words. Look at the 3 left side words and the 3 right side words.

The left side words have something in common with both their meaning and the way they sound.

The right side words can all be the second word in a phrase following a common word.

If nothing is coming to mind, maybe you haven’t heard of the answer. Have you looked up the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2012? Here’s a link https://www.rockhall.com/inductees/classes/2012

One of the band names also has two words. The first word describes and shares an ending sound with the left halves of the theme entries. The second word is the one that goes with the right halves.
If you want help with a meta, feel free to PM me. The more specific you are about what you have and what you want, the more likely I can help without spoiling.

(And if I help you win a mug, I’ll be especially delighted.)

Did use the second nudge because I was too lazy to think it through properly. :)

Fun one, and nice debut! Thanks.

p.s. -- I am here for the original version of the 10A clue :)

Nnnudged to the sssolution (the 2nd nudge, anyway), so challenging enough for this muggle. Really nice debut, Barbara, thanks for the puzzle!
