Winner Winner, Chicken Dinner

Formerly known as the “Sunday Summer Substitute”, editor Cap'n Rick now takes the helm for 'Smooth Sailing Sundays'. As The Commodores sang about Sunday morning, the SSS will focus on easier metas. SSS will also support smaller grids and will mentor new constructors on request. Puzzles released each Sunday around 8am Eastern. Nudges released same day at Noon Eastern. New constructors are welcome.

Hello Fellow Muggles! DavyGravy here with your brand new SSS puzzle. I'm happy to provide you with some Sunday entertainment. You'll probably need it today. After all, it feels like just another ho-hum run-of-the-mill boring Sunday right? It's not like there's anything exciting going on today. It's a shame there isn't a reason to get together with family and friends and eat and drink to excess. I'm just doing my part to help you out! (Ahem). Thanks go to: @Cap’n Rick for encouraging me to persevere with this one to completion, @boharr for test solving, and of course @JoeRoss for technical support.

Scoreboard updates during the week and solution on Saturday. Rather than wait till noon, I’m posting instant nudges here if you need them:

Sssolved! No nnnudges but a lot of googling.
If you want help with a meta, feel free to PM me. The more specific you are about what you have and what you want, the more likely I can help without spoiling.

(And if I help you win a mug, I’ll be especially delighted.)

:crossed_swords: :rabbit: :sailboat: SSSolved (with nudges and googling). Very clever construction - thanks!

And that graphic is making me hungry... but does it give us a hint as to which way you lean in today's game? ;)

I agree with @MatthewL - saving my S key as I abuse it enough between typing "ship" and "shore". No nudges required

Clever and fun meta

The good news is that I can watch the SB stress free. And hope that it is not decided on a questionable call by the pinstripes.

Good luck to Eagles and Chiefs fans. My predictions in friendly pool I am in is Eagles, 51 total points and Barkley as the MVP

Other good news is that the driveway and patio are clear of the 8 inches of snow.

@DavyGravy

Because it is not the Patriots, I don't have a strong opinion, so I am not emotionally attached to the game. I don't particularly like the Eagles but I also want them to block the Chiefs from winning three in a row. However, the Eagles have a very big and good offensive line and a good running back and running quarterback. I think that if they run on the Chiefs, they can not only be successful, but they can keep the Chiefs offense on the bench. So, I am going with the Eagles.

The NFL has to figure out what to do about the QB's who run along the sideline and at the last fraction of a second either throw the ball or step out of bounds just as the DB or linebacker is about to tackle them. And hope to get a penalty for being hit out of bounds.

Or if the defender pulls up, they run for five more yards.

Damn. I thought sure we were going to get a meta celebrating Carole King's (and my brother's) birthday today. Imagine my surprise when I finally SSSolved only to discover that it was about a football game and not the Loco-Motion. Aside from that, it was much fun and thanks to Wikipedia a walk (or perhaps a go-route) down memory lane.

@jhseeman We are happy to do it as long as you agree that in July and August when it is 78 here and 95 degrees and 95 % humidity in South Carolina you will keep that weather in your neck of the woods. :lol:
