"O'er the Ramparts"
Ahoy Muggles!
Happy 4th of July eve, everyone! Being a Bostonian, I felt that I needed to create a patriotic meta to mark this special U.S. holiday. The 4th is huge here in Boston with several events around the city culminating in a Boston Pops performance during a magnificent fireworks display. I guess you could say that all of those "bombs bursting in air" provided the inspiration for today's puzzle. I'd like to thank @Abide, @Al Sisti, @boharr, @whimsy, @MarkWoychick, and @Joe Ross for their pretesting and technical help.
The meta answer is 8 letters long.

Good luck!

Off the couch. Happy July 4th, y'all!
Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!

Oh, you are silly.
Fun one and I'm off the couch.

Funny story. I was all set to enter Par for the course for the CrossHare midi contest for April but I mistakenly thought midi meant 7x 7 and not 11 x 11. Oops. Well.... Here's a complex but **small** meta on the subject of golf.

Loved it! Great meta! Happy 4th all
If you want help with a meta, feel free to PM me. The more specific you are about what you have and what you want, the more likely I can help without spoiling.
(And if I help you win a mug, I’ll be especially delighted.)

Off the couch! I am amazed at how many people are on the couch today with their places of employment closed for a long holiday.
My avatar proves that it is sometimes better to be lucky than good!

Off the couch. Completed grid this morning. Saw nothing. Came back to it after lunch and saw it in a different light. Well done Cap'n!
