Hello, Operator

#1

Post by MarkWoychick »

Hello Muggles, and welcome to the working week. I wish you a happy Monday and (I hope) an even happier MMM solving experience. Today's puzzle is made possible by expert advice and insight from @whimsy, @Cap'n Rick, @Al Sisti, @Abide, and @JoeRoss - thank you all!

The puzzle title is "Hello, Operator" and the meta prompt is:

You'll need to recall the Three Rs to solve the puzzle. The meta answer is a three-word phrase.

One randomly drawn solver will receive a City of Trees Challenge t-shirt. Proceeds from every City of Trees Challenge t-shirt plant two forest seedlings and support the urban forest in Boise, Idaho. The t-shirt logo is shown in my avatar.

I will update the leader board as we go and offer nudges on Wednesday.

Happy solving,
Mark

Really nice!! I enjoyed it a lot. Of course now I have some songs stuck in my head, but that’s OK.

Off the couch!

Great construction. And for me the answer was able to 22A for quite some time until I did my homework.

Great!

Took me forever to get the second step but once I did....

Great!
Funny story. I was all set to enter Par for the course for the CrossHare midi contest for April but I mistakenly thought midi meant 7x 7 and not 11 x 11. Oops. Well.... Here's a complex but **small** meta on the subject of golf.

Ok, Ok it's happening again, First step obvious, second...well I won't even call what I am doing stepping. more stumbling. I see what I probably should do I just don't know that it is in my wheelhouse to know how. I'll keep plugging though because I have a feeling it is one of those "So THAT's what he meant!"

Very clever! I'm off the couch.

It took me a while because I keep forgetting to reformat the .puz version so that the right ends of clues -- where the parenthetical numbers are -- don't disappear off the edge. Clever title, and of course I kept thinking of the other Sade song.

I subsumed that into the title.
