MEOW #74: Dude, Where's My Carb?

A weekly meta crossword on the forum started by member Josh (aka madhatter5). These puzzles are often very creative with solving mechanisms out of the norm and skewing towards the more challenging. Puzzles are posted every Wednesday, and the solution appears the following Tuesday.

Dude, why so hard?

@Darth, I wish! I'm as stuck on this MEOW as everyone else!
Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!

Ok well this is embarrassing.

Early nudges!

Find the carb in the usual place for meta clue entries .

Apply this hint to the themers

I suspect this is where people are stuck which is entirely my fault - consider crossing entries

Scat, cat!

Got it, I’m pretty sure. Awaiting confirmation from Josh, but confident. I shared a thought with him on why this meta was so hard for me to get, but I’m not sure if my comment will be helpful. I don’t think much about meta construction; I just like solving them!

UPDATE: Josh confirmed!

Use those spoilers and you can get it.

Yea sorry everyone, I think this one is solveable but probably missed the mark. The original one I planned for this week didn't pass testing so this was a bit rushed.

Everyone gets a full refund :)

Hate to say it but.... yeah, it was the third nudge that stumped me. Got it now, I think. Or have a coincidence that is cute. (Actually, it could be a coincidence but I think I have it)

EDIT: Yeah, once you get that third nudge this is great fun to solve.

I guess I am going to have to wait for the fourth nudge. I think I have tried every variation of the third, but have not come up with any kind of verb.

PASTA = "PAST A" - I think this might have been your roadblock but maybe not

No. I wrote that down as soon as I finished the grid. I have tried to apply it to down and/or across entries using one and/or all letters. Also added in ONE BC as an option. Just not seeing it yet.

Go past the A in the themers and then get cross with me

Finally made it with the fifth and sixth nudge. The cat is out of the bag but will need to lay low for a few days after suffering from clawstrophobia after being confined for so long.

:? I sure wish I could noodle my way out of here...
[edit: The cat finally found his spaghetti! It makes sense in hindsight. Love your awesome creativity @madhatter5 -- new experimentation and growth for all of us!]
