The cat is free—welcome back Josh. When I saw 16A I knew it was good to have you home.

I believe the cat is out of the bag, but waiting for official confirmation.
Lots of fun cluing in this one!

Submitting now. The cat, having somersaulted out of the carry-on, feels very confident. Joshua replied that my answer was correct. I missed a big chunk of the solving path, but still got the answer right. Very nice construction, Joshua!

I think you mean 39D, and I don't get it either.

For me and perhaps others this was more like a kitten, one that is now outside the bag and batting a ball of yarn around. Some great cluing here, including probably the one I still don't get (39D)

No... I meant 9D. I don't get it. I know what the entry means but I have no idea what it has to do with the clue.

I also don't get 39D but I figure that may be a medical term I'm unfamiliar with so that doesn't bother me as much.

http://www.fresnostate.edu/folklore/bal ... 5cmen.html

"There were five, five, constipated men, In the Bible, in the Bible, There were five... in the five books of Moses": "Cain... who wasn't Abel"; Balaam, who couldn't "move his ass," Moses, who took two tablets, Samson, who brought the house down, etc.

....

Now if just someone could explain NINE DOWN "Back to Front?" to me......

@woozy -- I didn't get 9D either -- still don't -- but it didn't get in the way of the meta.

The grid was a ton of fun but I still sit here searching for the meta word. It reminds me of a poem I recently read in a book my oldest daughter bought me for Christmas, and it was written by a 9th-Century Irish scribal scholar in the margins of a manuscript he was copying - which fits the title of today's Meta. So there with a Latin commentary on Virgil and a list of Greek paradigms he penned this:

I and Pangur Ban my cat,
'Tis a like task we are at:
Hunting mice is his delight,
Hunting words I sit all night.

'Tis a merry thing to see
At our tasks how glad are we,
When at home we sit and find
Entertainment to our mind.

'Gainst the wall he sets his eye,
Full and fierce and sharp and sly;
'Gainst the wall of knowledge I
All my little wisdom try.

So in peace our task we ply,
Pangur Ban my cat and I;
In our arts we find our bliss,
I have mine and he has his.

My Pangur Ban would have better luck at mousing if he would crawl out of the bag. As for me, I am still enjoying the hunt for words. Thanks to madhatter5 and all the talented crafters on this forum for the challenging mental exercise.

Put 9D at the back of front

Don’t have much time for meta-ing this week, but this was so solidly in my wheelhouse that the cat quickly slipped its bonds.
If you want help with a meta, feel free to PM me. The more specific you are about what you have and what you want, the more likely I can help without spoiling.

(And if I help you win a mug, I’ll be especially delighted.)
