Ashore! Finally! So many rabbit holes and wrong turns before getting the actual answer, which was, to be fair, much more elegant than any of my previous tortuous attempts.

If anyone's having trouble submitting their answer on the WSJ crossword page, make sure you only use the 26 letters and space, and nothing else.

The pair of us found different clever mechanisms. Only one yielded a logical answer, so we are going with it. But remember when Matt told us he didn't intentionally put rabbit holes in the puzzle because we were all so good at inventing them? (Maybe it was Mike. In which case Matt said nothing.)

Anyway, this one can't be an accident. I am all set for Monday to argue my point! In the meantime, count us on shore but color me grouchy.

Finally ashore after correcting one mistake that was plausible but didn't lead to a final solution. I'm sure I'm not the only one that got hung up there for a while. Nice Meta!

not totally sure about this one... maybe 80%?
got the pattern but the ending seemed a bit sloppy, not at all like the clean solutions I have come to expect.
we shall see.

I have two possible answers but I am pretty sure about one of them.....Count me ashore. At least I think I'm done swimming.

And now back to my weekend…. Ashore.
The usual, please. This was a very good one in my humble opinion.

I have thrown on my leotard and swam ashore with the answer I think conductor Gaffney is going for after spinning two answers around the dance floor and coming up with a third that would really button up the costume, but does not fit the title per say.

Let's see if I get this straight

@Al Sisti is honored by being named Grand Marshall of the Utica St. Patrick's day parade which is today

Winter storm warning is in effect for Utica as Al is marching with 5-8 inches of snow before during and after the parade

And Al is marching with a sheleighly for two miles

Submitting following delays necessitated by correction of what was probably the same error others have made. Nice puzzle, thanks to M. Gaffney.

Well, that took much longer than it maybe should have, even after figuring out the mechanism. Happy to report on the beach!

Had a first today: my 10-year-old son sat down to look at the meta with me and we solved it together. He’s never expressed any interest in puzzles before, so it was very exciting. Isn’t it funny how showing a meta to someone else can help activate your own solving process?

FURTHER REFLECTION

The title is “Getting Possessive.”
I don’t suppose that’s too aggressive.
And it would have been fun
To have had the thing done
By Thursday at 5:00, right?
Impressive!

As pastimes go, it’s “decompressive”
Though
not solving can be depressive.
But I will not succumb
To the urge to become
Obsessive-compulsive excessive.

Good Saturday muggles

If anyone thinks that March storms in upstate NY are unusual, my nephew's outdoor May graduation from RPI in 2002 and my daughter's May graduation from Syracuse in 1996 were both in snowstorms

On a positive note we have two new muggles - dot and TheKater. Welcome to the clan as it is always great to have more muggles

So far we have 12 on the ship with Isaac and 148 on the shore
