Ashore! Took me longer than it should have… it always seems to take me longer than it should. Oh well, got there at the end and there are still a couple of spots on the sand. Gin and tonic for me please!

Ashore. I finished the grid this morning and set the puzzle to one side. Next I tackled today's Wordle. Then, back to the meta which took much less time than the Wordle to crack. That's a good start to the weekend.

ON THE SHORE! Decided I better mention my status before reading all the posts so I would be able to find a spot on the beach before they're all gone!

He's not talkikng about whether the winner of the coin toss wins the game. He's talking about "crafty bettors" betting on Tails. This sounds like an urban legend to me. Even if the coin gave Tails a 10% advantage, you're taking a big risk on a single toss. For example, suppose we were going to choose at random a number from 1-9. If it's 1-5 you win, 6-9 you lose. You get five numbers, the house gets four. You have a big advantage, but would you bet $5000? I wouldn't.BrianMac wrote: Fri Feb 11, 2022 6:59 am Ashore! Too late for page 1?![]()
I heard that given the tendencies of these two coaches, it's basically a lock that the team winning the coin toss will defer. Its -500, so you have to bet $5 to win $1, but still...DannyWalter wrote: Fri Feb 11, 2022 2:01 am Ashore with the crowd. Easy does it. Back to Super Bowl props. Handicapping the coin toss.
You laugh, but crafty bettors made money for years when the coin they used was weighted towards heads, favoring tails.
OTOH, if we were going to flip the coin 1000 times, then I'd gladly bet $5000 on each flip. But at the Superbowl, they flip the coin only once.
Presumably, these crafty bets are from the early years, before the coin flaw was discovered. But in the first twenty Superbowls, the coin came up Heads ten times and Tails ten times.

On shore with the multitudes. It’s early, so I’ll save my IPA for later.

On shore without a nudge! Life is good. I'll have one scotch, one bourbon, one beer. That is, when the bar opens...

On shore! Nice easy one today. I did the grid late last night and looked at it this morning to solve the meta and it was no problem. Happy weekend everyone!

@DrTom is what your wife always tells you to do "listen to me"?DrTom wrote: Fri Feb 11, 2022 1:36 am Oh, I'd have been really mad if I missed this one. I actually struggled and then I did something that my wife always tells me to do but I don't....anyway I believe I am headed for shore. I've been making my Cacciavites (the drink I came up with, essentially a screwdriver with Campari - thus the Italian word for screwdriver) and I've grown fond of them so I think I'll celebrate tomorrow with one of those (its way too late to celebrate with one now).
