MEOW#57: Counting Down

A weekly meta crossword on the forum started by member Josh (aka madhatter5). These puzzles are often very creative with solving mechanisms out of the norm and skewing towards the more challenging. Puzzles are posted every Wednesday, and the solution appears the following Tuesday.

Thanks, Josh. I needed the first spoiler. Another head slapper as in how did I miss that?

Also, thanks for the the shout out at clue 18D. That was a nice way to end the year. Time to set a new goal!

The cat has been nudged out of the bag. Fun meta. The clue for 5 Down (Jones of Muggledom) had me searching all of the comments looking for someone named Jones (DOH). Then, my real name was revealed at 7 Down. Happy New Year to all.

Got it, but only with the nudges. Tricky one!
Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!

You wanna pass me that cap, @KayW?

I can approach something reasonable enough but not with much precision in terms of an exact answer or mechanism -- only by cheating and "slurring" a lot. ;)

I think madhatter's nudges make the solution pretty clear but it's be nice to do it without them. (I couldn't, but I have faith others might)

Nudges required here, and then some. Kudos to those who got it without!

Needed all the nudges - so simple that it was hard. Good way to end 2021, the last AHA of the 2021 META season. Now let's purr away at 2022.

Thanks Josh
NUDGES!I am always willing to give nudges where needed; metas should be about fun, not frustration. Send me what you have done so far because often you are closer than you think!

10 is 01 upside down.
19 is 61 upside down.
6 is 9 upside down.

Ah. I was counting from the bottom, not turning the numbers upside down...

Well, my cat never did make it off the couch -- wait a minute! Which puzzle is this!? It's all a blur!
I took to heart the hint to use 61Down but wasn't consistent with the two others, having dismissed them when I saw 01. Big mistake! So I was left trying to use all that NOTE-Y stuff. And DENOTES? Notes were taken out? So I tried putting them back in and nearly got RE - SO -( LU/LA?) - TION from 10D. What would be a good resolution? Well, with the M from 61D, and going up and down the base of 6D (because I didn't know if I were coming or going at that point!) I thought I should be resolving to METATATE more! @Darth's yoga cat convinced me I was on the right trail!
