The Giants still rush on Three Mississippi.Bob cruise director wrote: Fri Dec 31, 2021 10:54 am
Playing pick up games growing up, we made up rules depending on the circumstances - can't hit to right field, supply your own catcher for baseball, three Mississippi's to rush for football, let the little kids get a hit.

I have been pulled ashore by a combination of Google, Wikipedia and Microsoft Excel. Using my resources, I successfully backed into the answer. Can’t say more without getting into spoiler/nudge territory, but I can explain my method Monday if anyone wants to know. A nice feeling to finish the year in metas.

I am washed up on the shore aided by the gentle waves of the Google. Left to my own devices, I lacked sufficient life experience. (I mean, watching TV counts as life experience, right?)

"Page One" status is more of a thing than I realized at first. Congrats to everyone who gets to the finish line so quickly!
As for me, I truly enjoy the whole solving process and feel a personal sense of accomplishment when I am successful. If it takes me the whole weekend to solve, it's a welcome challenge - either in terms of the level of difficulty or getting my head in the right space - but it's always fun. Too easy is never as satisfying.
The camaraderie of this forum is an added bonus, so thanks for that, to everybody here...
On another note, now that season 2 of Ted Lasso is over (I would give it a hundred thumbs up if I could), and the Yellowstone season finale is this weekend, I'm ready for some streaming recommendations.
See you all in 2022!

Ashore! We went down a lot of rabbit trails where it seemed like we had the right mechanism but couldn’t get an answer. Just looked at it again and found the answer. The mechanism doesn’t really click but the answer does so sticking with it! Ready for some bubbly! Happy New Year all!

I was just going to say “ I agree with this poster” until I realized it’s my daughter ( Regfish7) and we just solved together! Lolregfish7 wrote: Fri Dec 31, 2021 1:24 pm Ashore! Seriously, I think we got a good answer but I don’t see the “clicking mechanism” but I’m going to submit so we can go out on a boat ride now!
So count me “on shore”!! 🏝

I'm on shore a little late because I didn't think there was a contest this week. I'd thought the WSJ didn't publish today and Mike Miller's last post said "See you in 2022!" I suppose that's true; he won't post until next year.
I also spent some time chasing rabbits until I found the right path.
Edit: Corrected my mistaken belief that there was no paper. I should have realized that they would publish on a trading day although I didn't get the paper at my apartment.

The WSJ was published today. It won't be tomorrow, so all Saturday puzzles will not be posted today.Eric Porter wrote: Fri Dec 31, 2021 2:03 pm I'm on shore a little late because I didn't think there was a contest this week. Paddled my way to shore after spending a lovely evening at the ship's bar.
I don't have anything clever to say, but if I did, it would go here.

Well I'm probably not the best to ask because we are fairly easy going on Christmas Decorations. They are often up until the Feast of the Epiphany or later. If they are still up near Mid January we send a subtle reminder. We have never had to get forceful, and that would be a difficult one because our HOA does not have specific "rules" about Christmas Decorations.Joe Ross wrote: Fri Dec 31, 2021 11:06 am
Does the HOA make religious exceptions? The 12th Day of Christmas (January 6th) is the Epiphany (the visit of the three Magi) and the last day of Christmas.
I'm not trying to start a debate & will redact this post, if requested. I'm genuinely interested in how HOAs approach this & other holidays, religious or not. Our good DrTom is president of his HOA.
That's the good DrTom
The evil DrTom - says, "Unless those lights give me the mechanism for the WSJCC or MGWCC, take them down, I've got nothing to celebrate here!"
NUDGES!I am always willing to give nudges IF ASKED; metas should be about fun, not frustration. PM me what you have done so far, because often you are closer than you think, and I will try to help you move along.

Made it onshore!
Does anybody know if the WSJ is accepting submissions for new meta puzzles? We created and submitted a couple of puzzles some months ago using some PDF info found online, but never heard anything at all. Wondering if we had bad information. Thanks!

Happy to provide nudges if you see that I have solved.

Joined the shore lunch bunch. Not sure about the answer's relationship to the puzzle title. I see something, but it seems a little weak.
