This is looking like my only chance to get on the first (or second) page. With enough clues to declare I’ll be staying clueless.

I've got a "W" in my name is well, but that doesn't seem to be conferring any special enlightenment. Isaac -- whiskey please (and make it a double).

That's it! The W in Whiskey. We will all need five of those and we won't care about the meta. Hope that's not a spoiler.MatthewL wrote: Fri Nov 12, 2021 9:43 am I've got a "W" in my name is well, but that doesn't seem to be conferring any special enlightenment. Joined my compatriots in the bar late yesterday. There's a lot of "W's" coming out of my mouth, but maybe that's just because I'm starting to slur my words...

I'm just glad the prompt wasn't a "4-letter word".
Dear Mr. Shenk,
Pretty please can next week be an easier meta? Like, "1A: The answer to this clue and to this contest is the word "MUG""
Love,
David.

In retrospect, it appears that the diabolical stage was set back on October 21: MWAHAHA! And the goal? You'll never solve this one!Dplass wrote: Fri Nov 12, 2021 11:05 am I'm just glad the prompt wasn't a "4-letter word".

We are always happy to get to know other muggles and help in any way! PM's are always welcome. The next best thing to winning a mug is helping a fellow muggle win a mug!

Firmly ensconced at the bar, spending down my vast stash of loyalty points acquired over the past several weeks.
Check out this very cool project by many of your favorite muggles to raise money to fight cancer. You get a fun puzzle bundle and good causes get $. Win-win: Crosswords for Cancer

Our brief Friday report
It took us until Friday at 9:27 to get to Page 2 and there we sit.
We have 10 on the ship and only 5 on the shore.
This is getting painful.

Ooh... I hate this part. Don't know whether to concede I won't get it or figure it might come to me if I don't think about it. But don't really know how to think about not thinking about it. I have three rabbit holes that I *know* won't go anywhere but I can't conceive of how there can be anything else.
I prefer the metas where it is clear *what* you have to chew on but it's hard as hell to know how to chew them. These ones where you simply don't know where to chew are ... unsatisfying.

I'm on the ship; I usually don't announce it because people will start complaining how I'm hogging the best seat at the bar.
I don't have anything clever to say, but if I did, it would go here.

Maybe Mike Shenk will take pity on us and post a hint. Otherwise, I give up.

At the bar with Isaac . . . with lots of "whos" all around me where we are all sitting at the bar with Isaac on this fabulous Friday afternoon staring at a puzzle all for the glorious opportunity to win a mug. I think I got 'em all in there

Mike Shenk, a diabolical meta, today, in the WSJ, because he can.
If that’s a nudge it is completely accidental because I still got nothing.

Eesh, third week in a row that I'm completely stumped! My tab is the length of a CVS receipt.
