Well I first just thought judge but then very quickly saw the trial.
Sometimes the metas are too hard for me. This one was probably too easy but still kind of fun.

Well I am embarrassed to say that I got 1.5 METAs correct. I got the MGWCC but booted the WSJCC because I missed TRIAL, Boy that is two now that I managed ot mess up because of rhyming (MG Night Before Christmas META). I gotta stop wanting to pull the trigger so fast but I never even stopped to look that the FIRST part of each answer was a rhyme as well. So, I retract my earlier statement, apparently the Super Bowl was more rewarding - DRAT!
So Bob, remove me from the landing party.
Oh, Isaac can you open up the bar please, unfortunately I had to return to the ship.....

NUDGES!I am always willing to give nudges where needed; metas should be about fun, not frustration. Send me what you have done so far because often you are closer than you think!

nice touch with 3-Down clue following the first letters of the title and answer being best known as a trial judge
Maybe an example of a cunning hint or a GUILE NUDGE ??

Just saw this at the WSJ site
Hello, WSJ puzzlers! I'm an Audience Interaction Producer at the Journal and I wanted to let you know about a project we're working on. The puzzles team is currently developing a how-to course that will slowly teach new puzzlers how to find the weekly contest's meta answer. All four of the contest puzzles from February will be included in that course, and that may be why this week's contest may seem a bit easier than usual for seasoned puzzle-contest fans. But don't worry, each week our editors will increase the contest's difficulty to ease new solvers into the world of contest puzzles. Good luck to you all and keep an eye out for the crossword contest course coming soon.

Fair warning, especially for certain speed swimmers. My guess is 10% overall went with only “judge”.
The site is just a web page, a meeting place, a clubhouse - it's the group that's special.

I got trial judge. My only hesitation was that “justice” was in the title. Seemed a little too close, but when I saw the WSJ post, felt better about it.

Forgot to report in this week, but glad to see that others were scratching their heads over the ease of the swim. The WSJ post really helped with enlightenment.
