After spending the last couple of weeks lost at sea, I used celestial navigation, took sextant readings, fought sea sickness and made it to shore. I had to justify a certain aspect of the answer, but it fell into place at the end. It's classic Gaffney style. I'm always amazed at how they come up with ideas for the meta, let alone execute them.

I’m ashore, but with only 80% confidence. I figured I might as well submit, because another two days wouldn’t add to my level of confidence. Also, a big thunderstorm is rolling through, and I’d better submit before I lose power and Internet.

On the beach.
I don’t solve on the first pass very often, but Matt and I were on the same wavelength this time.

Ashore. Kinda makes up for last week’s metapuzzle (one that stubbornly defeated me, even though I spent quite a bit of time on it). So ... whatever will I do with my extra time this week? ...

Well I finally figured out the last step - it was less like an AHA! and more like an "ok..." Now to just find the rest and figure out what the answer is.
Onshore - for real this time. This is the toughest puzzle I have ever solved on my own by far and the first time I have ever solved a puzzle on my own after the 3 hours mark. Took putting it down and walking away 3 separate times.

Sometimes it takes me days! Always a good idea to put it aside and look at it with fresh perspective!TPS wrote: Thu Aug 27, 2020 8:37 pm Well I finally figured out the last step - it was less like an AHA! and more like a ok... Now to just find the rest and figure out what the answer is.

I used to try this but it never worked but that was when I was a newer solver - maybe now that I have a few more tools in the tool box it will help.hcbirker wrote: Thu Aug 27, 2020 8:45 pm

Made it! Went down a couple rabbit holes after I figured out the mechanism (more listing every available option rather than separate digs) before I had the a-ha moment that quickly brought me onto dry land. There's a nice wink (kinda subtle, so maybe unintentional?) tying up various parts of it too...
Glad I got it on my first week in here.

I’m joining the crowded shore party.
Had a momentary hesitation at the end, but now I’m sure.

I actually think what you are talking about sent me down many a wrong rabbit hole at first - I think if it had just been the title and that it - I would have solved this one an hour sooner maybe more.

Ashore, after a huge nudge. Can't say I'm a fan of the mechanism.
