MEOW #221 Prominent Features

A weekly meta crossword on the forum started by member Josh (aka madhatter5). These puzzles are often very creative with solving mechanisms out of the norm and skewing towards the more challenging. Puzzles are posted every Wednesday, and the solution appears the following Tuesday.

Check out "The MOAT Mini Pack of Marching Bands" here. US$5 gets you 7 Marching Bands which, hard enough on their own, now contain metas too. And once again there's a mega-meta! :D

Nudges, in order of increasing blatancy:

1. There is a clue in the grid: 6D. "Coincidental features demonstrating that two things are related somehow" = SYNCHRONICITIES.

2. 6D may not help you on its own. 70A is also a hint: "One with very similar features" = TWIN

3. In an earlier version of the puzzle the clue for 70A ended with "(size and row, say)". (It was removed to make the puzzle harder!)

4. Look for a twin of each asterisked entry in the same row and of the same size.

5. To make it work you will need to add an extra letter.

Here's the solution to "Prominent Features":

Eagle-eyed solvers with good memories might have recalled a closely related metanism at work in @Abide's "X-Word Friendly" puzzle. But it's just another case of "great minds think alike" since I constructed my puzzle some 12 months ago and definitely did not share it ahead of time with Peter. :D
