"Clark! The Herald"

Formerly known as the “Sunday Summer Substitute”, editor Cap'n Rick now takes the helm for 'Smooth Sailing Sundays'. As The Commodores sang about Sunday morning, the SSS will focus on easier metas. SSS will also support smaller grids and will mentor new constructors on request. Puzzles released each Sunday around 8am Eastern. Nudges released same day at Noon Eastern. New constructors are welcome.

Merry Christmas, everyone! Larry Edelstein brings us to 69.

Enjoy the day!
Nice.
If you like Rows Gardens check out my mini ones here: viewforum.php?f=41. Nudges are free on the off chance I’ve solved the meta.

The familiar holiday message is "Peace on earth, good will to all" (or "Peace on earth, good will to men", or "Peace on earth, good will to all men", or "Peace on earth and good will to all men", or...) Oh, never mind, you get the picture. And to "get the picture" you needed to follow the instructions at 15A and string together the entries found at 4A, 13A, 31A, 35A, 37A, 44A, 54A, 56A, 66A, and 60D to produce what (hopefully) resembled a CHRISTMAS TREE consisting of the following:
  • 4A PEASE sitting "on" 13A EARTH, a 31A GOUDA 35A WHEEL, and two ALLs producing the familiar "Peace on earth, good will to all" message (or one of several other permutations).
  • And despite the fact that it's Christmastime, we had several "Easter" eggs including 31A TRIPE (i.e. "moi") along with 35A ABIDE, 37A SISTI, and 44A KENNEDY - the "three wise men" (or is that "wise guys?") who taught me everything I know about constructing meta puzzles. In fact, I can honestly say that without them I'd be nothing. Other eggs included 18A TEAM, 21A SLY, 39A META, 25A CLUEING, 43A Utica CLUB, 50A CITGO sign, and 59D Boston TEA Party.

So, there you have it - a nice straightforward holiday meta featuring "creative" grid art, an unambiguous mechanism, and a solid "set" of accepted answers. I hope you have a very nice Christmas and Hanukkah and a very happy New Year. Mom says she might even let me watch the ball drop on the color TV upstairs this year! Yahoo!!

Remember, if at first, you don’t succeed, call it version 1.0.

Well now, I got "to all men" by going through the regular route and going back to all the "men" in the middle. I did not realize I could have gotten by with the "Peace on earth good will to all". To back up my answer I was going to submit a picture, so here it is:

EDIT: Well I guess it is actually more, Peas, on earth. Good Will, two men.... :)
NUDGES!I am always willing to give nudges IF ASKED; metas should be about fun, not frustration. PM me what you have done so far, because often you are closer than you think, and I will try to help you move along.
