MEOW #210 Do I Hear Water

A weekly meta crossword on the forum started by member Josh (aka madhatter5). These puzzles are often very creative with solving mechanisms out of the norm and skewing towards the more challenging. Puzzles are posted every Wednesday, and the solution appears the following Tuesday.

MEOW #210 Do I Hear Water

Do I Hear Water Banner 2.jpg
Back from Thanksgiving and slowly adapting to not eating every 10 minutes. This week will seem very tame compared to "Woozy's Doozy", I am so glad that everyone enjoyed it, new contributors (well new MEOW contributors) always shake things up a bit.

I'd say this one would rate a Calico on the scale, just because I imagine that some people, probably most people, will need Google for parts of it. That is not because of the difficulty of the mechanism, it is just that there are things that probably are not in the everyday lexicon.

Now, I've gotten spoiled between my last MEOW and my SSS, both getting over 50 solvers. I am sincerely hoping that is a trend and not an artifact of having more free time at Thanksgiving. My testers on this one were @Cinny , @Bird Lives and @hcbirker and as per usual I owe them a great deal of thanks.

Kitten
֎Calico
Persian
Puma
Lion

Nudges will be Friday, or sooner if needed, and I am always ready to help anyone who PMs me.

The cat is free! Nice one, @DrTom. :D
Check out "The MOAT Mini Pack of Marching Bands" here. US$5 gets you 7 Marching Bands which, hard enough on their own, now contain metas too. And once again there's a mega-meta! :D

I test solved this ten months ago. I can't remember things from a week ago, today's solve should count as an unbagged cat, especiallly since it took me long enough to see what was going on.

I may have test solved this, but I didn't remember it. It certainly wasn't a quick aha moment for me. But the cat finally overpowered me and escaped! Thanks, Dr. Tom.

I did the grid pretty early on last night.

You know how the say they didn't see something at first but then in the morning there it was? Doesn't that just honk you off.

Cat firmly entrenched in bag and making sickly noises.

The cat has fallen out of the Doritos bag. Looks embarrassed.

Yes this is an oldie. Glad the path finally flooded back in.

Same - thought I'd have a MEOW-eve solve, but nope! Have Step 0, still looking for the next...

But! I needed to hop in anyway to just to comment on the cluing - there are at least 20 where an obvious clue would have been an easy grab for the construction, and DrT took a left turn or a right turn, added a pun or deceptive indirection. Always a treat!

Well my cabinet is intended to attend to the Secretory of the Interior. It consists of:

Ambassador to Speyside
Ambassador to Kentucky
Ambassador to Britain
Ambassador to Jamaica
Ambassador to Jalisco, Mexico

They are to keep me informed of of any developments, even in the still of the night..... :D
