Finished the grid Thursday, but nothing leaped out at me. Came back to it just now and discovered the ship was way closer to shore than I thought. Pretty much waded to my cabana. For now, I’ll celebrate with a stiff pour of NyQuil.

Grew up in Philly. Lived in Pittsburgh for almost a decade. Now back in Philly. Loved learning the Pittsburgh lingo including "Yinz." Wondered how "Yous" became "Yinz" over the space of 300 miles.HeadinHome wrote: Thu Nov 14, 2024 7:28 pmI’m actually imitating my Mennonite in-laws, so YES!BethA wrote: Thu Nov 14, 2024 5:52 pmGot a kick out of “You uns” — very similar to a word in the western PA dialect “Yinz”
Oh, and "Wudder" somehow became "Water." Go figure...

My grandfather was raised in Pottstown, PA. He was a yous-er and much of that side of my family remains so.HunterX wrote: Sun Nov 17, 2024 4:48 pmGrew up in Philly. As one of my Pittsburgh cousins said, "Hows come yinz southerners talk so funny?"

I spend a few months each year in Pottstown (where I happen to be right now) and I can assure you that youser and wudder are still in popular use, and both are foreign to my Michigan ear.Joe Ross wrote: Sun Nov 17, 2024 5:17 pmMy grandfather was raised in Pottstown, PA. meanwhile, us here in Chicago have a completely neutral newsanchor accent. Seriously. I sound just like Lester Holt. the zoom crew can back me up on this.

On the beach! It wasn’t due to a late start. It wasn’t because I forgot to post. I struggled with this one. With that being said, I got it!

Our final count is 4 on the ship and 223 on the shore.
