MEOW #206 8 Millimeter

A weekly meta crossword on the forum started by member Josh (aka madhatter5). These puzzles are often very creative with solving mechanisms out of the norm and skewing towards the more challenging. Puzzles are posted every Wednesday, and the solution appears the following Tuesday.

This is another puzzle that has been sitting around for a while waiting to find a place in the queue. Heck I had to remember how to solve it as I was trying to get it ready to go.

I doubt they will remember it, but @KayW and @lbray53 helped me test and refine this one. Of course they may just pull a Mission Impossible on me, "As always, should you or any of this meta be wrong or crunchy, the test solvers will disavow any knowledge..."

Difficulty? Hmmm...I'm going to say Calico to Persian because you will have to see the "trick" to solve. Of course once you do it is pretty straightforward, but noticing what I'm up to might be a challenge for some depending on your levels of experience with the subject. Still, this is nothing that is way out in left field so I expect most will find their way.

Kitten
֎ Calico
֎ Persian
Puma
Lion

I will try to remember to post nudges this Friday (sooner if needed), hopefully I can keep my mind in the game. Remember, you can always PM me for a nudge or some guidance.

NUDGES!I am always willing to give nudges IF ASKED; metas should be about fun, not frustration. PM me what you have done so far, because often you are closer than you think, and I will try to help you move along.

Trying to download the .puz but "The selected attachment does not exist anymore."
I don't have anything clever to say, but if I did, it would go here.

Cat's free! Nice aha moment, @DrTom. :D
Check out "The MOAT Mini Pack of Marching Bands" here. US$5 gets you 7 Marching Bands which, hard enough on their own, now contain metas too. And once again there's a mega-meta! :D

One of our Muggles (@hoover) seems to be unable to download the puz file, he gets a message that it is no longer available. Anyone else experiencing that?

I have what I can't believe isn't the mechanism (if it isn't, do I have a good mechanism for a future puzzle) but I can't make it go more then 18.75% of the way. And there is a 6.25% of the way where it obstinately and obvertly refuses to go.

("obvert" isn't a word but it should be.)

Cat free and gets to nap now, while I get to work. Booooo

Crunchy grid but gettable meta, and fun to complete!

I often just screenshot the puzzle posted up top rather than download the PDF, so didn’t have the issues with downloading others reported. I did, however, read the prompt at the top as “The answer is something producers are very concerned about Dr. Tom” and thought that should read “very concerned about regarding Dr. Tom” but whatever. Then thought, “hmm… PUNNING? LUNACY? ( :

Either could qualify, though are not the answer. Turns out the space at the top for a prompt, if the prompt is too long, tends to run into the "author" field. I need to add more space and/or us a smaller font.

:crossed_swords: :rabbit: :cat: Cat had as much fun finding the escape route a second time (and was very relieved that she could do it again!) Thanks Tom!
