Figured out the meta this morning, but couldn't understand the relevance of the puzzle title, Reserve Players. Zoomed in the group call this afternoon, but I still don't understand. Perhaps all will be revealed after midnight Sunday.

On shore. Had a hefty bar tab to settle with Isaac. Had been stuck on board for a month. Glad to have some sand between my toes. I'll take a cosmo, please

Struggling somewhat, so I read through the comments, which suggested the meta solution was straightforward. Then it was. So thanks to all above.

On the shore finally. I was beginning to think I might throw the meta towel in! It’s great to get one on my own.

Ashore. The grid took a little while to complete, then the contest solution came very quickly.
While doing the grid, I thought I was seeing a pattern that would be useful for the meta but it turned out the solution was in a different direction. Now for a cold Manhattan please! And cheers for another weekend without agonizing over the solution!

Ashore.

As with others, I cringed a little when I saw it was sports related. One: I don't follow sports at all. Two: Just lived through the Phillies losing to the (ugh) Mets. (Not intended to be meta-related or a spoiler in any way.) You decide whether I said that because it IS, in fact, related and I was just trying to throw you off, or whether it isn't.

But I'd say it's a classic metanism that, in this case, qualifies for THAT word. (YRMV)

BTW: In Philly, going to a popular restaurant that doesn't have TV's during a Phillies or Eagles game is the best time to get a good seat at the bar or a great table.

Count me ashore. So clever I am still chuckling. Almost too close to home for this beat writer. Solved by the backyard fire, it’s time for another beer and another log.
Dickie Dunn wrote this, it's gotta be true.

On shore with my hubs. He confirmed the sports-related answer for me. ;)

I think I've been at sea for a month but this week Mr. Shenk finally gave me a meta I could handle. Ashore and ready for a New York Sour. And set something aside for college football tomorrow.

Cheers to all!
