A SMALL ANNOUNCEMENT

This puzzle is a bit smaller than normal, but it has some big news. Next week's crossword will be my last puzzle of the year.

The puzzles from Nov. 5 through Dec. 31 will be written by special guest constructors. Today's crossword explains why.

Not a meta, but, yeesh!, that was tough to create.

I thought you were going to tell us pink or blue but you tricked us, Evan!
All the best, and we'll see you when the bags under your eyes aren't quite so baggy!?!

Hmm, I misread the intro as your last puzzle as WaPo editor. I thought you might be taking over for Will Shortz

Congrats on the actual announcement!

I hope Evan doesn’t mind. He posted a few pics on formerly known as Twitter.

Congrats from here as well. Once again, an impossible-looking grid proved to be solvable, once I finally figured out the theme. Remember that nobody knows ahead of time what rearing children is really like...
