Ashore on the banks of the Tiber River in Rome. Feels like a limoncello spritz kind of night!

On shore. I should have had it earlier but clerical errors on my part convinced me that I was in a rabbit hole. I FINALLY went back and checked my work.

I also looked for a little validation. Only found one convoluted, probably unintentional aspect to the puzzle. Curious to see if anyone did too.Trish wrote: Fri Feb 17, 2023 10:02 am Pretty sure we have it, but not solidly confident. Thought there would be something to absolutely verify our answer after the blatant hint given last week!
Think we will sit on our solution for today and see if it becomes more solid for us.

Very pleased to announce that I am ASHORE! I, of course, could not start the puzzle until this morning. (When will my friends and family realize that Thursday afternoon is when the WSJCC drops?!!! Or that this is something of great interest to me?) Anyway, the reason for my happiness at solving relatively early (for me) is that I was somewhat worried that I might experience Covid-19 brain fog. Yes, dear readers, the dreaded disease finally found its way to my husband and me. Our Covid-19 symptoms started appearing last weekend but the first at-home tests we did were inconclusive. Long story short, we're much better today and I feel like making dinner for the first time in several days. Everyone assumes we were infected in one of the foreign countries we visited while on our cruise, but we are fairly sure it was the passenger seated in front of Mr. Hidden on our plane trip back from Miami. As my husband so colorfully describes it, "He was coughing up a lung!". And indeed, it seemed that way for much of the flight back to Charlotte. GRRRR!

Good Friday muggles
among the many great things about the forum, in addition to seeing pictures of engagements and weddings, and the lamentations of all of us about friends and relatives not being appreciative of the compulsion that we have of getting to the meta at 4:00.00 pm with the hope of getting to page 1 (sorry about those who actually have to work), but the amusement we all get of the clues and the answers. This week 16A and 37A provided that amusement. I got the answer from the down answers but you look at it and try to understand the clue. Very often it does not come to me until I bore my wife with reading the clue and the answer.
We have had a steady procession of tenders from the ship to the shore since yesterday. We have 2 on the ship for now and 129 on the shore in a very clever meta by Mike Shenk.
have a great day.

(Happy birthday, @Onaquest and @Meg!)
Celebrating by solving a clever WSJ meta (on shore!), working on a couple of my own, drinking coffee, playing with Ginger Cat, and counting down to the start of baseball season! A good day indeed!
Thankful for all of you!

I would have NEVER forgiven myself if I did not get this one! I believe I am on shore. I'd have to say that when I got the answer there was no doubt. I also do not agree that @Sleepy posted a possible spoiler. That is about a generic a comment as I can imagine and certainly something people often do. So @Sleepy don't lose sleep over it.

And he of course was not going to inconvenience himself by having to put up with a mask! Indeed GRRRR. As soon as I get any symptoms that might be Covid/Flu/Cold related I mask up and Purell load. Now granted I may be a bit more sensitive to the devastation all of these diseases cause (especially to those of use who have passed the half century mark or more) but what ever happened to concern for your fellow man? Sigh, color me dinosaur.Hidden in 3D wrote: Fri Feb 17, 2023 11:43 am Very pleased to announce that I am ASHORE! I, of course, could not start the puzzle until this morning. Got the 16A immediately but it took me several reads and an "OK, just let your mind wander" (always dangerous since it often stays away for days at a time); then it hit me so hard I could bearly contain myself. I should have known he had something bruin when he gave ursa clue like that.Bob cruise director wrote: Fri Feb 17, 2023 11:55 am Good Friday muggles
