MEOW #110: Drink You Under The Table

#1

Post by benchen71 »

BenChen71 back in the MEOW house at the opening of the new year! I trust you have recovered from any wild partying that may have occurred. And on that note...

Occasionally I come up with an idea for a meta which should probably be left in that notebook of ideas. But, no, I had some time; I wanted to construct a meta; so I forced it into a grid, and here we are! There are some rough spots in this grid, let me get that off my chest right at the outset. But I've tried to compensate you with some fun cluing. Alternatively, just reveal the grid and get stuck into the meta, the answer to which is an alcoholic drink (but not a cocktail).

The easiest way to submit is on Crosshare (and you get instant feedback and unlimited attempts!) But you can also PM me with your submission. Either way, I'll compile a list of those who successfully solve the meta.

Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!

Cat's gone.
I'll admit that (at your behest) I just revealed the grid this time. But there was indeed some amusing clueing.
Thanks for the puzzle!

Cat checked his leap just in time to escape the bag and submit the correct answer. Nice one, Ben!

I was able to free the cat after reading the title and prompt more carefully. I thought I knew where I was going without following directions.

Great clues. Made me chuckle. Took me a while to get the meta. I was overlooking something that I saw in the first place. Thanks, Ben!!

I submitted the obvious answer, which obviously was incorrect because it violated the prompt .. which means that it was exactly what it said it was, if you know what I mean.

How to get to the CORRECT answer? I dunno.

Us too! However in our case...the cat is still very much in the bag even though the poor thing appears to have scratched out some air holes. The 🐱 may need to wait until Saturday.

The bag is finally cat-less. I stared, off and on, for quite some time, after initially going astray — then had a nice head-slapping aha moment, leading to a very satisfying solve. Thanks, Ben!

Cat is free! Massive props for the first thing I tried. What an amazing stroke of construction. I also loved and laughed at several clues, especially 6D. Thank you, Ben!

Cat is loosed. Had to laugh at some of the clues, especially 22A which reminded me of the classic prize question: Who is buried in Grant's Tomb?

Boy, a lot of people are talking about 6D when we said we wouldn't talk about it.
