MEOW #93 - Read Between the Lines

#1

Post by Cap'n Rick »

Ahoy Muggles!

Welcome to the ninety-third installment of the MEOW! I'm very honored and a bit saddened to have this opportunity to fill in for @madhatter5 today. I was very surprised by his announcement yesterday, and I join all other Muggles in wishing him well during what I hope will be a temporary break. Hurry back, Josh! We will all miss your creative and innovative meta challenges.

For today's MEOW, I'm reaching back into my literary collection and pulling out a mystery novel that I hope will keep you on the edge of your seat. The puzzle provides several hidden clues to the mystery, so be sure to carefully "read between the lines". I'd like to thank @Abide, @Al Sisti, and @whimsy for pretesting an earlier version of this puzzle, and a big shout-out to @Joe Ross for once again saving my bacon at the 11th hour!

Hint

The meta answer is mystery novel.

Difficulty

This mystery should be relatively easy to solve. Let's call it a "Calico Kitten" on Josh's rating scale.

Kitten*
Calico*
Persian
Puma
Lion

Nudges are here.
Solution is here.

Good luck!

Cat's out! Very cool puzzle, @Cap'n Rick!
Check out "The MOAT Mini Pack of Marching Bands" here. US$5 gets you 7 Marching Bands which, hard enough on their own, now contain metas too. And once again there's a mega-meta! :D

Hi Cap'n Rick. I'm new to this forum and like it very much! Are there nudges for the MEOW puzzle like there are for the Mondays and Tuesdays?
If I’ve solved and you need a nudge, you can PM me. Happy to pay it forward. ;)

Cat's out of the bag and running around the house somewhere.
I don't have anything clever to say, but if I did, it would go here.

Nice one, Cap'n Rick! The cat is out and I'm off to make dinner and celebrate this week's successes so far (thereby jinxing myself for what will surely come next).

Always happy to check out the newer versions (especially since I usually forget the old ones -- too many puzzles, not enough brain cells!)
And any excuse for a cat pic --
