Reminder @MamaE @ajk @VincentM @JetStream and anyone else I missed:
The WSJ online submission form is really picky. I'm not sure exactly what trips it up, but I've run into a few things so now I always specify my answer without any special characters or punctuation.
(Also, the grid needs to be completely filled out in "pen," although it doesn't matter if it's correct.)

Ashore!
Had hoped there was one more connection, but alas, it wasn't so.... still, pretty confident in the answer! Thanks Matt and Mike!

COMBOS was the answer to a MGWCC vending-machine puzzle a while back. I'd never heard of them. So this time when I got Step One, I wondered, Is that another candy I've never heard of? I was on the verge of Googling it when the penny (the penny candy?) dropped.

On the shore, but I did the grid in ink and it's a mess. For me, this one had a fairly high grid-to-meta difficulty ratio. A fine puzzle overall, though.
