At any rate I believe kitty is out of the box.

Fun and educational puzzle. I had heard about "that thing" a while back but did not remember it (not that it would have made any difference). I just wish I had not spent all that time Googling Hhmanuw or Hmyrtlliwuosc, the results I got were, well incomprehensible.
Fun fact, try Googling "hiybbprqag".
Bingo
Ken Lay sues Bernie Madoff for stealing his business model.

Solved, awaiting confirmation but I don’t see how it could be anything else. Wow, what an interesting puzzle, thanks!

Edit: Confirmed!

Nudge Saturday!

The first step is to fill the grid. It should be very easy. If you are resorting to codes of any kind you are thinking too hard.

If you're still stuck filling the grid, consider the lengths of each clue and each corresponding entry.

Once you've done the grid, the answer is literally spelled out.

I filled out the grid quickly on Wednesday, but didn't have a clue what to do next. Needed Josh's final nudge to find the meta answer. What an awesome puzzle! Wow!

The cat is out of the bag. I fought with this meta for 4 days (even with the spoilers) until I spotted the mechanism. AHA, nirvana ! Excellent meta

Very funny. I'd sometimes wondered whether a clues = entries puzzle would be super difficult because it'd be the last thing you'd think of, but it turns out the striking abundance of super-short clues makes it much more obvious than that.
