A recent MEOW meta had some of the theme answers fresh in my mind.
Just got around to this one and solved fairly quickly (for me). Did have trouble with 1D as I'd never heard of that word, but was on the right track with the parsing. Agree that this felt a bit familiar after the MEOW puzzle you mentioned.
Also, your signature inspired me to attempt a cryptic clue for my handle as well.
