This month's contest crossword is entitled "Oscar Gets Saucier."

(The new crossword contest is about halfway down the page)

The contest answer is the title of a 20th-century winner of the Academy Award for Best Picture. Submit your answer to puzzles@beyondwordplay.com by February 28th, and you could win a prize!

Good puzzle; not too hard.

I was surprised to read in the newsletter that I did not win last month. Then I looked at my Sent email folder and realized I'd never actually sent in my answer last month. At least my odds will be better this time.

I think I have it, but not completely positive. Thanks for posting this Barbara!

I feel pretty confident about this one. Nice mechanism. Is the prize a mug?

Did anyone do the bonus "Pizza Slices" puzzle at the bottom of the page? I've got the first part, filling in the 8 pizzas. But I'm not sure I understand the instructions for the next step. Are the 'clue words' hints that point to the 'stage answer' for each pizza? Or were they just to fill in the slices and the name can be any random person?

I also have the usual concern about actually having heard of these 'famous' people.

I was past due for a stumper, and I guess this is it. So many weird things going on with the starred entries.

Got it (I think). Had an answer ~10m after finishing the grid.

I would love a nudge on this one if anyone is so inclined... Thanks in advance!

Edit: thanks! One of those "why didn't I see it?" ones, and I think the answer is that I wrote out the elements in illegible handwriting rather than typing them into Excel cells. :)

Got it. I don't watch a lot of movies, but I've seen this one a dozen times.

Back in the VHS days, I watched it, then stood up to rewind it ("be kind; rewind!") and once it was rewound-- absolutely serious here -- watched the entire movie again, still standing up.

Got it, but I think I'm missing some cleverness on the title connection.
