Well done, Chris.

Nudge Wednesday!

5A and 10A relate to the four across theme answers.

Take the results of Nudge 1 and consider the clue for 41A - - any extraneous information there?

Will post another nudge later today.

Currently Off the Couch:

The two nudges have not helped me get from Step 1 to Step 2.

Off the couch, with nudges. That was a great meta. Last step was hardest for me.

I am with Wendy.

Nothing is coming into focus.

My picture isn't even helping.

Ok, a couple more Wednesday nudges:

Nudges 1 and 2 were meant to get you to google the Snellen eye chart, and notice that the first/last letters of the theme entries (DEFPOTEC) is the 20/20 line in the chart. As prompted in the title and the title prompt, " . . . . how things will look after 2020", combined with the answer needing to be a seven-letter word, should push you to another nearby line.

By now you are on the 20/25 line, and the letters make no sense. What mechanism might you use to convert those letters into something useful?

I got it right after I saw the second round of spoilers. I was on the right track, I just missed a step!
Great puzzle!

I meant to ask you last night "you don't look old enough to remember 51 across"

Even I am old enough to remember Rat Patrol! (Although I may look older than youthful Chris.)

:couch_and_lamp: Off the couch. Well, pushed off, anyway - it took all 4 nudges, Fabulous construction and meta. Thanks, Chris!

I am certainly old enough, but I don't remember ever even hearing of this show. I had to google it. At the risk of being non-PC, that may be a gender thing. OTOH you can ask me anything about The Monkees or Batman, both of which happened to be on the air the same years (66-68). Or Gilligan's Island. Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale...

Spoiler 2 did not help me as I was onto that but am doing a random walk with a white cane.

Finally off the couch. I needed every spoiler but it was still fun.

The combination of 5A, 26D and 27D sent me on a wild hare chase. I was absolutely sure I was on the right path. So many things seemed to point me in that direction. More after the contest is over if anyone is interested.

I was laying in provisions for a long weekend, then a friend's recommendation that I have my eyes examined allowed me to realize the key mechanism overlooked. Well... Eagerly sought, but missed. :nerd:

A solid Week 4, possibly a 5 on the Gaffney scale, IMH&HO. Great work, Chris! Thank you for the puzzle.

It took me all four nudges also. Nicely constructed.
