Themeless Love of Beer

Hello, Muggles! Here's my second attempt at an 'artisan,' (can you tell he worked in marketing?) hand-written, non-meta crossword. My thinking is to learn how to craft a puzzle 'by hand,' before calling on the software, to get a better feel for how it all works.

My first attempt, 'Veterans of Troy,' was the response to a self-imposed challenge to get a certain full name into a crossword. It's rough around the edges - quite literally! It even triggered Brian's gracious sharing of the crossword building 'How To's.' Thank you, Brian!

This effort follows a similar challenge to incorporate many of the 'How To' guidelines and a newly discovered(?) science - one that did not, sadly, have a department in our School of Science, back in the day - although there was a one-credit course "The Science of Beverage!" Needless to say, many students could have double-majored with this science.

As noted, the italicized clues' answers may take some crossing help and a slightly slanted sense of humor!

My goal is to work my way up to producing a worthy meta by 2021. All feedback is welcome and encouraged!

I hope you enjoy the attempts at generating a smile, or two.

Cheers,
Mark

EDIT: thanks to Hector and Cindy for the extensive feedback. The attached file has some updated cluing to clear up some confusion.

Thanks, Mark!

I'm finding it very difficult (perhaps I'm just in a 24A). I'm still missing two cells (both in 9D), and I don't understand the gimmick yet.

Question/possible nit: Is 27A spelled the way you intend it?

I enjoyed the forum references.

Thankss.

9d Is a weak spot; think Myers-Briggs, if that helps. My apologies on 27A, it is bad spelling on my part. Should have double-checked my work there.
