I’ve peeled the banana and found the answer.
Don’t love the last step, but OK.
Before I got it, I had a different method to get an obscure and now defunct brand name, but that didn’t seem likely, so I kept working on it.

The answer to "Squeeze Play" was CHARMIN.
The answers to seven clues were one letter too long to fit in the grid. Those "squeezed" out letters needed to be re-arranged (with apologies for random anagramming), and when done so, yielded the answer.
