The answer to the metapuzzle is either of two Academy Award-winning films.

This is my second PGW, and man are these grids brutal! Is it expected that they be solved without any outside aid/googling?

There is no such expectation. A meta is open-google, both in the solving the grid and the meta. You should feel free to turn to google as soon as you feel like it, or struggle with the puzzle on your own for as long as you want to. I think this one is difficult, but not impossible, to solve without reference material - though I'll concede the SW corner is pretty rough.tonyrobots wrote: ↑Tue Feb 25, 2020 12:04 pm Is it expected that they be solved without any outside aid/googling?

Thanks Peter, appreciate it. I've managed the grid now with a little help from the google gods (agreed, SW was a bear), and I see what must be the mechanism, but not quite at the finish line yet. Enjoying myself so far though.

Good one! Tough grid, but the meta actually helped me finish it (still had to Google a few things though).
Full disclosure: I received feedback from PGW that my Googling was a bit sloppy... I still got it right, but not entirely for the right reasons :-)

WHEW! Nice. I was starting to panic, but finally had the aha moment. Even after that it took me a while! I took two or three wrong turns in this one.

Got it!
I agree with others here. Good puzzle!
Yes, I had to do some googling. A bit, to finish the grid. A bit more, to confirm I was heading in the right direction with the meta.

Woo-hoo! Back in the groove! SW corner was a bear, and so was NE corner.

Wow, no clue _at all_. Absolutely nothing is even hinting at anything for me...

Think I got it. Very thankful for one thing in particular that got me going.

It's very rare that I solve a PGWCC. This one's no exception. Got the grid, but haven't even a glimmer about the meta.

A friend gave me two big hints and I got it. It's extremely unlikely I would have ever gotten it on my own.
