On shore. I felt a lot like Indiana Jones in the Last Crusade. I made my way to the knight's tomb but needed Dad's grail diary to pass the three nefarious booby traps but got the right chalice on my own.

Compass needle broke.
Sextant mirrors cracked.
GPS battery dead.
Lighthouse bulb burned out.
Fog rolling in.
HO 229 a sodden mass of sea water pulp.

Is that an iceberg?

Yes, that was him!

Something I thought had to be part of it turned out to be part of it - but in an entirely different way than I expected.

And something that should have jumped up off the page and hit me in the face ended up being the very last thing I found.

LAS. Staring blankly at the parentheses. Will try to devote more time to this prior to the deadline.

A minor typo - you listed both parties on shore. And I think you missed me - I am still lost with the "Isaac shore" crowd, fighting to get his attention for service.

I hope your grandson swam better than I am doing so far this week!

I am also sipping some single malt Scotch with Isaac. Totally lost here, but will take a break to do some cross-country skiing to see if that trigger something for me.

Finally on shore! I was lost at sea for quite a while and was just about to send out an SOS.

I was even looking through the past WSJ Crossword Contests (thanks a lot for that), and while I'm not sure it actually helped, it may have gotten me thinking like Matt Gaffney.

As usual, my instincts were pointing me in the right general direction, but I was failing to choose the correct path. I was close to solving it Thursday night, but didn't realize how close until now. I actually shouted a little in celebration when I finally saw it. Good luck to everyone keeping Isaac company.

Back from a 2-week trip to Blighty and feeling a tad rusty. Chilling with Isaac and a Stone IPA in the ship’s bar... for now at least.
