On shore - didn't see it at first glance, but after walking away for a while I returned and saw it right away. A relief after last week's debacle!

As for the grid, I didn't find it particularly challenging, but I think all of the Friday WSJ grids fall within a very narrow range of difficulty for anyone who does crosswords (as opposed to just metas) on a regular basis. Generally speaking, I find that the easiest ones take about seven minutes, and the hardest about 14 minutes. But your mileage may vary...

I think this is a great puzzle for novice muggles. Not one-star easy, but a good teaching experience. Preemptive welcome aboard to those who might join us this week!
Do you do other metas besides the WSJ?
I started doing PGW and Gaffney metas this year since I thought I got fast enough at WSJ and felt ready to take on new challenges. So far so good :)

Finally reached the shore after being tossed around the surf for some time. Time to dry off and drink up!

To be clear, I'm pretty sure I made it ashore in a couple of minutes. I'd be interested in one aspect of it, but it seems pretty straightforward.

Sorry. I must have missed you in the growing crowd on the shore. But welcome

No need to apologize. My initial post wasn't the clearest. I've actually been solving most of these for years now but just decided to join the tour.

Yay, on shore! I thought the grid was nicely challenging and actually took me longer than the meta.

Ashore after a satisfying solve. May be easier for older folks. Thanks Mike!

OK, fine, now all my confidence is ruined. I cannot see why it might be easier for older folks which convinces me that this is indeed a pageant and my initial elation turns to total deflation. Ah well I can defend my choice but I am sure there is the AHA that says, "close but no cigar sir, would you like to try again next week!"

Sending beams of love to Joe, BrianMac, Bob, Mike and any others involved in making this treasure trove of past metas available to all of us. Thanks! I needed that!
I’m sure all Muggles join me in this heartfelt appreciation. ❤️🙋‍♀️

Ashore. Finally had time to tackle the puzzle last night. So I enjoyed a nightcap on the beach. Since I was able to get the answer, I'd have to rate the meta as average. I rarely get the tough ones but it is fun trying.

Ashore. I enjoyed this puzzle's construction, and didn't stumble down too many rabbit holes.

Hey just out of curiosity, the star rating for puzzles is for perceived difficulty? fun factor?
