I don't remember where the idea for this one came from, but definitely one of those "can I turn this into a puzzle" thoughts.

Thanks to @Abide, and @Wendy Walker for test solving, and for some key fill/clue tweaks. Thanks also to Wendy for spotting a rather nasty red herring that I didn't even know was a fish. :lol: :lol:

Thanks as always to @Joe Ross for tech support.

The meta answer is a an appropriate 5-letter verb.

I don't think it's especially difficult (maybe week 1.5 on the Gaffney scale), but if you get stuck, fear not, nudges will be forthcoming on Wednesday. Solution on Sunday.

Update: got it, and I should not have been worried. Fun solve, in the airspace between Charlotte and Cabo San Lucas!

That was a fun couch to vacate.

.... wait. That doesn't sound right.
Funny story. I was all set to enter Par for the course for the CrossHare midi contest for April but I mistakenly thought midi meant 7x 7 and not 11 x 11. Oops. Well.... Here's a complex but **small** meta on the subject of golf.
