I finally made it ashore after combining ideas with my sister this evening. I’m surprised to see, based on the crowd, that this one was apparently towards the easy end!

Wonder if Rolls Royce without the hyphen is acceptable?

Hope so! I’m sure there will be quite a few submissions without it.

Have to say that having FILCH appear directly below ABERCROMBIE immediately triggered my spidey-senses and gave me the metanism before finishing the grid. But it was still fun to find the others and put together the answer.

Now where's that email from the WSJ...?

Same. It helped that my father used to joke that their name should be "Abercrombie & Filtch"!

As a craftsman and a tool fanatic, I am embarassed to report that I did not see Black & Decker straight away. Alas, I even own an original Black & Decker Workmate from the 1970's and the company originated in my home town of Baltimore, Md.........

@ship4u My husband has the Workmate, probably from the ‘90s, but it looks quite similar, and he is also from Maryland.

The Black & Decker product that I’m really passionate (?) about is the Spacemaker electric can opener! Apparently no one wants this type anymore! It’s great that it mounts under the cabinet and doesn’t use up counter space! This one is also probably from the ‘90s. I brought it from San Jose. The spring in the magnetic lid grabber stopped working a long time ago, but is taped up out of the way because it isn’t really needed. More recently, the plastic main lever you push down to pierce the can and start the opening process cracked. ☹️ Fortunately the second superglue attempt is holding!! I hold my breath and use it very gently…

From my brother Bill: Could the title of the puzzle "The Joyce is Yours" relate to a pop culture reference to "What's your choice, Rolls Royce?" -a jazz tune.
[What's Your Choice, Rolls Royce? (feat. Kurt Elling, John Patitucci & Horacio El Negro Hernandez) ]
Here's the link:

They used to make good quality merchandise. Maybe a hundred years ago. I have one of these, apparently designed to burn your frostbit hands:

The contest answer is ROLLS-ROYCE. Each theme answer contains the first of a famed pair of business founders: BARNES & Noble; BLACK & Decker, ABERCROMBIE & Fitch; WELLS Fargo; and FISHER-Price. Find a grid answer one letter off from the unmentioned founder: ROBLE, DOCKER, FILCH, LARGO and PRISE. Those changed letters spell ROLLS, which, when used with the title (Joyce/ ROYCE) leads to the contest answer.

A nice business theme for the WSJ, with a big turnout: 1,780 entries, about 93% correct (plus another 29 votes for ROLLS which we also would have accepted).

Incorrect submissions included EXXONMOBIL (5), NETFLIX (5), JOHNSON & JOHNSON (4), HALLMARK (3), PEPSI (2) and a handful other others.

Congrats to this week's winner: Renae Norwood of Rosenberg, Tex.!

I selfishly hope not. :P (since I included the hyphen -- just trying to increase my odds to a number that doesn't need an exponent  )

Apparently the hyphen didn’t matter as I’m a little surprised that Mike Miller said they would have accepted just
ROLLS ! Seems that doesn’t finish the meta IMHO.
