86. Ingenious Quiz
PDF and PUZ
Crosshare
(But I'll ace the tests - I'm paws-itive!)

Spring training has been going well so far, and I look forward to keep seeing my Cubs do well before the games actually count! (Let's hope they do well then as well.)
We have some updates on past winners for metas 81 through 83!
Puzzle #81 winners: @Berto and @Qmark
Puzzle #82 winners: Joe (I'm not sure which Joe, haha) and @Bbaack
Puzzle #83 winners: Myelbow and @HeadinHome
Congratulations, and may all your solves be beautiful! More drawings next week!
---
Puzzle #85 answer: QUANTUM LEAP
Correct entries: 45 with some nudges, so a solid Week 4 indeed!
@BrennerTJ jumped at the chance!
Explanation: We have seven entries at the bottom with UP in them, causing @Bird Lives to quip, "Are you sure the answer isn't a drink?" But there was more to it, which means something was probably going on up top!
For each column with an UP entry, go to the very top entry and form a new entry with the same clue by appending a letter (for example, "medicine cabinet sight" goes from CUPS to TIPS, which becomes Q-TIPS, so the first letter is a "Q"). These letters spell out QUANTUM, which - along with the title and mechanism - suggest the title QUANTUM LEAP (in honor of leap year!), the answer to the meta.
---
WSJ and MGWCC were pretty breezy this week, and this Level 1.5 (at the most) should also play similarly! This is the last month of the Winter Solvestice, but I hope we don't get any more wintry weather around these parts anyway! (It is the region, after all.)
---
86. Ingenious Quiz
The answer to the meta is a 2-word television title.
Deadline is Saturday, March 9 at 1 pm ET.
Good luck, and may all your solves be beautiful!

I passed the quiz! Good one!
If you want help with a meta, feel free to PM me. The more specific you are about what you have and what you want, the more likely I can help without spoiling.
(And if I help you win a mug, I’ll be especially delighted.)

Fun one!
(Hey, why did the POAK solver need to replace their audio equipment every Saturday afternoon?
-Because a new Mike just dropped!)

Woooooot!! Too generous, Mikey! The constructions themselves are a gift to us.

Gneiss!
Mikey, you should know that I regularly quote your punny clues and entries to my wife. Occasionally she’ll chuckle. (Tough audience.) I, OTOH, laugh often. Thanks for a puzzle I always look forward to. (Though not as much as the baseball season.)

Solved! Fun one, Mikey.
Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!

Found the short cut-- the real road is more impressive!
The site is just a web page, a meeting place, a clubhouse - it's the group that's special.

Jangler also found the shortcut!
I'll do that with my mother. The running joke is that she won't respond and I'll start to repeat it, to which I'll get a variant of, "I heard you already" or "Was that supposed to merit a response?"ChrisKochmanski wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2024 2:54 pm Gneiss!

Solved! (And it wasn't the two-word title I was expecting.)
I don't have anything clever to say, but if I did, it would go here.

Same - so glad Mikey provided the full explanation in crosshare. Clever and impressive!
