"Down Under" by benchen71

Can you storm the castle by getting across the MOAT? A weekly meta crossword constructed by forum member Ben (aka benchen71). These metas range from relatively easy to more challenging, depending on how many Australianisms he puts in them! Puzzles are posted in a new thread every Tuesday, with nudges appearing on Saturdays, and the solution coming out on Mondays. (At least, that's the plan. Given he lives in Australia, and they are so far ahead of the US time-zone-wise, things may get posted early!)

Welcome to...

benchen71's Metas on a Tuesday (MOAT)

Can you storm the castle by getting across the MOAT? From idea to finished meta this one took me far longer than I could possibly have imagined! However, this should prove to be a fitting "week 4". The answer to the meta is two 8-letter words.

The easiest way to submit is on Crosshare (and you get instant feedback and unlimited attempts!) But you can also PM me with your submission. Either way, I'll compile a list of those who successfully solve the meta.

Down Under - Crosshare
Down Under - PUZ
Down Under - PDF
Down Under - spreadsheet

Nudges are here.
The solution is here.

Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!

Worked my way across the Moat, down the wooden path and under the portcullis. In need of a snack! Awesome puzzle, thanks Ben!

Wild guess worked and backed into the mechanism. Backstroked across the MOAT I guess.

Crossed the MOAT with another clever and fun puzzle by Ben! And I have a new-found appreciation for the puzzle's subject.

Nudges, in order of increasing blatancy:

1. There is a big hint in the grid: 68 and 69A: Band that sang the song whose lyrics will help you solve the meta = MEN AT WORK

2. The song you need to peruse is, of course, "Down Under".

3. This grid was so hard to construct that I did not check to make sure words from the lyrics of this song were not used in the grid.

4. Use the first word of the puzzle title to tell you which clues to examine.

5. Use the second word of the puzzle title to find the meta answer.
