OTC, but mostly due to Schmidzy's comment. We ended up solving it both ways.

schmidzy wrote: ↑Mon Jan 15, 2024 11:59 am Oh no! Thanks to some friendly comments, I've realized a big oversight on my part. As it turns out, there's not one but TWO different ways to arrive at the answer ... and the second way is much simpler. More to come in the Wednesday nudges (and of course the reveal) but for now, sincere apologies to all of you who are left feeling confused, and I promise to check my work more carefully next time around.

(And if you feel charitably inclined, consider that extra piece a "bonus puzzle" ... there is a way to get from there to the same answer!)
Indeed I do consider that a bonus puzzle -thanks! Back to the board. I'm curious to see which of the paths I found...
I'm super curious as well!! i don't see the second path yet... if i can't find it, i'll just wait for the reveal
edit: found the second and harder path thanks to reading comments πŸ€‘... i'd like to revise my comment about the title doing double-duty to triple-duty now

Thanks for the puzzle!

Finally OTC. There's rabbit holes, and then there's this puzzle setting a trap that everyone will fall into. It really slowed me down.

Can’t spot the second method, but the (I assume) intended one worked just fine, with a slight hitch you can recover from intuitively. OTC!

Aaand, I'm off the couch. Lovely - I think I got this the hard way, in which case, what a concise mechanism here!

I'm also very amused by the clues in this grid: 12-D, 13-D, and 47-D are all fantastic punning. Great work all around.

Off the couch with the help of Google. Curious to see what the second method of solving is. I'm lucky if I find one! Thanks!

Nudge time!

1. Say the title out loud. Does it sound like anything?

2. Four themers look like they might be holding some cash.

METHOD 1:
3. It sure is hard being this rich, I hardly have space to write about all my wealth! Wouldn't it be nice if there were a shorthand?

METHOD 2:
3. Mexico? Nah... been there, done that. I'd rather go to Peru!

OTC, but the comments here kept me on the couch, overthinking, for too long. The nudges confirmed my original hunch.
