MGWCC #814 — “You’ve Got to Stand for Something”

STREAKS AND VERIFICATIONS FROM LAST WEEK:

OK, I *think* we’ve gotten everyone’s streaks fixed from the chaotic past few weeks. If your streak still hasn’t been made whole, please email me at crosswordcontest@gmail.com with STREAK in the subject line and we’ll take care of it. Apologies again for the hassle lately; I know it’s annoying, but it should be over now and shouldn’t ever happen again.

THIS WEEK’S INSTRUCTIONS:

No instructions given here since there are no-instructions solving options.

Solve well, and be not led astray by words intended to deceive.

On the board at #5. Really liked both WSJ and MGWCC this week - a promising start to the year!

Man alive, I still went down a couple of rabbit holes. I'll contend Week 1.5, haha.

But beamed up at #20. Score!

Here's to a great start to your new year!

That took a second longer than it should have! Also, had to look up something.
Happy to give nudges. If you notice I've solved, please tell me about avenues you've explored so I can nudge you in the right direction and not off a cliff.

Finally beamed. Fun puzzle but seemed a bit tougher than a normal week 1.

Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!

Agree. If this is considered a "week 1," then we are in real trouble for what is coming the rest of the month! :)

Beamed up. Tough for a week 1, but not too tough.

(#94. I’ve got some good neighbors in this week’s leaderboard)

Beamed at #51. Everybody loves acronyms, as long as they signal their own in-ness. Otherwise, not so much (NSM? Is that a thing?)

Funny story. I was all set to enter Par for the course for the CrossHare midi contest for April but I mistakenly thought midi meant 7x 7 and not 11 x 11. Oops. Well.... Here's a complex but **small** meta on the subject of golf.
