"After Breakfast" by ajk

Formerly known as the “Sunday Summer Substitute”, editor Cap'n Rick now takes the helm for 'Smooth Sailing Sundays'. As The Commodores sang about Sunday morning, the SSS will focus on easier metas. SSS will also support smaller grids and will mentor new constructors on request. Puzzles released each Sunday around 8am Eastern. Nudges released same day at Noon Eastern. New constructors are welcome.

Happy Sunday. :)

This one popped into my head, unsurprisingly, while consuming the meta answer.
There's not that much too it, but hopefully it will provide some Sunday morning entertainment.

Thanks to @Abide and @Wendy Walker for test solving, and for some design suggestions that removed some possible red herrings and some of the jungle covering the trailhead. Thanks also to @Joe Ross and @MarkWoychick for tech support.

The meta answer is a common breakfast item.

Nudges later today, if needed. And I am of course always available via PM for additional help. Reveal on Saturday.

Hope you enjoy!
cheers,
Alan

SSSSSlurp.

Yum. It was my first guess but I had to spend a good fifteen minutes to come up with a good reason. But it was there.

(I kind of thought this one was a teeny bit harder than most people probably found it.)

Yummy item. Unfortunately my wife doesn't like them much which is really weird and everybody likes them.
Funny story. I was all set to enter Par for the course for the CrossHare midi contest for April but I mistakenly thought midi meant 7x 7 and not 11 x 11. Oops. Well.... Here's a complex but **small** meta on the subject of golf.

Time for nudges in case they are needed:
Some of the clues have something in common that might put you in mind of the title, at least generally

Breakfast usually contains food

Eight symmetrical acrosses all have food-related clues, and those are the only food-related clues in the puzzle (hence the more obscure clue for 20D)

The first word of the title is significant

Can you think of a word that might go 'after' the themers on the left? How about the ones on the right?

Part of 23A is an (admittedly unintentional) Easter egg that might point you toward the answer

Sssolved without nudges! Completed the grid last night and promptly fell into a rabbit hole. Picked it up again today and immediately saw the metanism. Fun one! Thank you, Alan!

Sssolved with nudgesss!
Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!
