Make Mine Marvel

#1

Post by Darth »

Calling all Marvel fans (and/or meta crossword fans)!

Like it or not, Marvel's "multiverse" of superheroes has invaded our world, permeating our popular culture. From the first issue of The Fantastic Four in 1961, Marvel's influence has expanded from small comic-book fandom to worldwide cinematic fame.

For those in the know, "Make Mine Marvel" is the catchphrase of brand loyalty, and the tagline of an ambitious campaign to reboot its characters and develop intermingling storylines.

And in case you missed it, Marvel Studios has produced four of the top ten highest-grossing movies of all time. Impressive!

Now, it's your turn to impress by showing your meta-solving superpowers! (And, if needed, there's always Google as backup.)

The answer to the meta is a character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Special thanks go out to @Joe Ross and @MarkWoychick for their technical help.

Amazing construction!
I wonder how many people remember/know that Marvel went bankrupt in the 1990s and today's Marvel juggernaut almost didn't exist? I had a friend who -- now that I'm typing it all out, I don't remember whether he owned Marvel stock and lost it all when it became a penny stock, or he bought Marvel stock for the novelty when its price fell into the pennies. Anyway, something to do with the stock, which is how I remember that it almost went out of business and now here it is ruling the entertainment industry.

Solved after eventually figuring out what to do with the things I found early on. Fun, thanks.

Wonderful construction and great fun, Darth! Marvel movies are an ever expanding hole in my cinematic resume, but this was certainly gettable with a trusty modem and an old AOL CD-ROM

OTC! Thanks Darth!
I haven't seen most of the recent MCU movies, but I saw all of them up to 38A.

I got started on solving the meta, then got a little stuck, read the comments here and realized what I had to do. I'm not saying there's a spoiler here, but sometimes reading comments gets my mind working.

Off the couch. The force is strong with this one! (Er, wait a minute, wrong franchise )
Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!

Sort of amazed I made the "good start" group since I had to lean really hard on the DuckDuck to find the basics. Wow, there is a lot going on here...

A MMM on a MMM, mmmmmm! Clean fill, great AHA, nicely disguised metanism, superb Easter Egg...well that is the Fantastic Four! I'd refer to you as a Superman, but that of course is a different franchise. Enjoyed it to Infinity War and beyond.
