MGWCC #808 — "Follow the Instructions" by Ben Chenoweth

Dear Solver,

MGWCC #808, is a guest puzzle by Ben Chenoweth @benchen71.

This is Puzzle 4 of 4 in November, but it's a bit easier than a usual Week 4, so we're offering Week 1 solving options (no instructions, downs only/no instructions). That second option might be tough -- if you pull it off, please let me know with your submission!

Deadline for submission is Friday, December 1st at noon ET. The website's being a little wonky with the late deadline, though, so if you submit after noon on Thursday you may need to email me your entry at crosswordcontest@gmail.com. Just an FYI there...

On to this week's puzzle, and thanks to Ben for pitching in!

No instructions given here since there are no-instructions solving options available.

Time for a guest constructor. Surprised Matt doesn't get ahead of himself and keep a few "reserve" puzzles to use at times like this when mad scientist ideas just don't pan out.

Wendy, I'll step in for Matt. Here is a picture of my youngest granddaughter, Greer.

I'm kind of surprised with the postponements that he attempts (and usually succeeds with some accuracy) how long it will take to complete a partially done meta. I'd assume one would have no idea.
Funny story. I was all set to enter Par for the course for the CrossHare midi contest for April but I mistakenly thought midi meant 7x 7 and not 11 x 11. Oops. Well.... Here's a complex but **small** meta on the subject of golf.

Wow.

Also, I loved this one - a great Gaffneyesque puzzle, @benchen71, while still having your own voice shine through! Well done!

Hmm. Enjoying it so far, but haven't solved the meta yet.
Every now and then a crossword clue makes me realize my age. I confidently put in an answer in 57D right away, but not the right answer.

Well, I *tried* to submit but got an error message that submissions were closed.

I'm pretty sure I have it.

Edit: and there I am at #30.

Fun one. I like the ones.... I can do.....

Heh... heh.... I was more sure of 57D than I was of 76A that for a while I redid the entire corner.

(Man, that movie had a great soundtrack, didn't it!)

Woo, hoo, congratulations @benchen71 for another MGWCC!

And way to go @MikeyG #1 on the leaderboard!

When I submitted, I got a popup that said submissions were closed, but I waited and checked back after the next update and I have officially beamed up.

(I expect that there will be a fair bit of submission weirdness this week. And it looks like the "This Year" and "Overall" tabs are not reset.)
If you want help with a meta, feel free to PM me. The more specific you are about what you have and what you want, the more likely I can help without spoiling.

(And if I help you win a mug, I’ll be especially delighted.)
