MEOW #156 Do Over

A weekly meta crossword on the forum started by member Josh (aka madhatter5). These puzzles are often very creative with solving mechanisms out of the norm and skewing towards the more challenging. Puzzles are posted every Wednesday, and the solution appears the following Tuesday.

MEOW #156 Do Over

DO OVER Banner Final.jpg
This puzzle came to being after I was influenced by solving a different puzzle and having some word play fun with its creator. I am sure you will all recognize the roots of this do over almost immediately. The mechanism is not the same but it is quite simple even so. I give this a rating of:

KITTEN
Calico
Persian
Puma
Lion

Now, the hunt has begun, release the hounds (well OK, the cats)

Nudges (if needed) Friday, Reveal Tuesday November 28th

Thank you to my testers: @Snood, @KayW, @Meg, @Bird Lives...and if I forgot anyone I am sorry in advance!

Thanks also to @Joe Ross for getting this up on the forum and other moderators not previously mentioned for all the work they do for the site: @Abide, @MarkWoychick, @boharr.
NUDGES!I am always willing to give nudges where needed; metas should be about fun, not frustration. Send me what you have done so far because often you are closer than you think!

Cat's out! Fun one, with a good aha moment.
Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!

The cat is out and about. No "Do Over" on this one. I am looking forward to leftovers on Thursday though.

This was as extremely difficult because it was so easy. But I got it eventually.
Funny story. I was all set to enter Par for the course for the CrossHare midi contest for April but I mistakenly thought midi meant 7x 7 and not 11 x 11. Oops. Well.... Here's a complex but **small** meta on the subject of golf.

Challenging grid, but the meta rating is spot on. Fun stuff, thanks.

Yes. Yeah I had to back my way out of a deep rabbit hole to find the answer.

Nice job, @DrTom! Happy Thanksgiving!

I am so glad this is a popular one, as anyone who has solved it knows, I had a LOT of fun doing this puzzle. I may not be my usual "chatty" self today since I am getting things ready for Gluttony 2023, but I'll update the leaderboard for sure this evening.

Cat free and sniffing the aromas related to tomorrow’s feast. She’s partial to the pies.. or at least the whipped cream on top.

Safe travels to those who are traveling, and to those who cook, a toast to family recipes! My must-do is “Mommaw’s dinner rolls” (she did them as trefoils, with lots of butter)… miss her this time of year!
The other Wendy.
