MGWCC #806 — “That’s an Order!”

Post by BarbaraK »

THIS WEEK’S INSTRUCTIONS:

This week’s contest answer is a two-word brand of cookie.

Solve well, and be not led astray by words intended to deceive.

Much fun was had by all at our second Muggles Meta Q&A with me, your humble meta-creator. We discussed all things meta for a couple of hours, interspersed with me going over a couple of memorable puzzles from the past three years. The event was ably hosted by Muggles Chief Bob Stevens, and featured appearances by meta-constructors extraordinaire Mike Shenk, Mikey G, and Ben Chenoweth. Check it out HERE.
I did it! Saw the title and prompt a couple minutes before noon, had a theory and a guess, and went ahead and submitted before looking at the puzzle. 1-Across Achievement unlocked! That was my last one (until they add some more) and the one I thought I'd never get.

Apologies to #2 gpagano and the rest who actually solved before submitting. I'm not usually one for guessing at metas, but for some reason I'm ok with it on MGWCC.
If you want help with a meta, feel free to PM me. The more specific you are about what you have and what you want, the more likely I can help without spoiling.

(And if I help you win a mug, I’ll be especially delighted.)

Congratulations, Barbara!
My first guess would have been wrong, so I'm glad I solved before submitting. Beamed up!

Read and react- congrats @BarbaraK !

Beamed up myself at 14 after doing the grid, but with no confirmation other than it fit.

Congrats @BarbaraK! I filled in the grid, saw the mechanism, and immediately jumped to a very much wrong answer which I unfortunately didn't slow down enough to double check before I submitted. My poor streak!

Congrats to @BarbaraK! I was pretty much in line with your guess but couldn't risk it. To the victor goes the spoils!

Now back to that pesky (but beautifully constructed, from what the masses are avowing!) WSJ!

Well, there I am at #89 with help. I couldn't believe the mechanism really worked until a smart person told me, yeah that works and here's why.

I got something that works and fits my rules of consistency but seems weak. Should have more references.

Going to submit as an eight or whatever week streak isn't worth protecting. But if I'm right I'm wondering if I'm missing something.

EDIT: and #113. I wonder if there is more to it.
Funny story. I was all set to enter Par for the course for the CrossHare midi contest for April but I mistakenly thought midi meant 7x 7 and not 11 x 11. Oops. Well.... Here's a complex but **small** meta on the subject of golf.
