Resolution

After I completed this puzzle, I realized that it’s very similar to one of my earlier puzzles.. This near-duplication only increases my admiration for the real pros, who come up with new ideas time after time. The current puzzle and its predecessor are based on quirks of language that I had noticed long before I knew what a meta was.

This one plays a bit more difficult than some MMMs, at least a 2.0, partly because the themers don’t exactly jump out of the grid at you. I had toyed with ways of making it easier, but I’ll leave that for the Wednesday nudges.

@Abide @Al Sisti , and @Cap'n Rick test solved and made valuable suggestions. @Joe Ross set it up to give you a choice of formats.

The answer is what you might say on seeing yet another Bird Lives puzzle.

I believe I am off the couch, but Crosshare never said my answer was correct. It just went on to let me leave a comment. I may be stuck on the couch, afterall!

Solved. Do not see an option for submission on crosshare.

Fumbled around in a rabbit hole before the light bulb clicked to eject me from the couch. Nice one all around, Jay. Elegant and well-constructed, thanks!

Before I start working on @Bird Lives MMM, is "what I might say" consisting of a series of four letter words?

You know you do metas too often when when you are specifically asked to look for weird things and your mind just plain can't see anything as anything but normal. Eight?!?! I can only find one. Maybe two. Five if I really, really, stretch things. If I stretch any thinner I'll find 16

Ah, got it now.

I got into a literal-minded mathematical precision track that led to a rabbit hole. (Although I think my nitpick is valid).

Good puzzle and no, the solution is very, very wrong. I do not say that when I see another Bird Lives meta.

Off the couch. Went down a bit of a rabbit hole, as I misunderstood the mechanism. Finally got it though. Thanks, Jay, and ditto what woozy said about the ultimate answer.

I was in this same situation until I got some direction.

Off the couch. It shouldn't be too difficult for people who do the WSJCC, which is probably most everyone.
