Someone get the crunchies, stat!

---

Hello hello! We did it once but hopefully never again: this meta was not written from start to finish in a 12-hour window, haha. Not too much else to say except that, while your mileage may vary, I'm thinking about Level 3 or 3.5 for this.

---

73. Something's Missing

The answer to the meta is a 2-word, 10-letter phrase.

Deadline is Saturday, November 4 at 1 pm ET.

Good luck, and may all your solves be beautiful!

Thanks Mikey! I both loved and hated this (I think that's the correct reaction?) ;)

Quick addendum:

The clue for 50-A should read

"Proper name that starts a Washington waterway."

Will update PDF and PUZ soon.

Carry on!

Solved... with a leap of faith! Good puzzle and clever construction.
Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!

We have a solid 21 to start this puzzle, and I'm guessing this means we're looking at a Week 3.5 so far. It's a bit more lateral than some other ones also.

Nudge-a-rinos coming on Wednesday!

I came dressed as the most terrifying costume of all: an asymmetrical crossword.

DOH!!! I violated an essential rule of Metas and it took me forever to get to the end and many shoves (to call them nudges is a travesty). I need to remember whose puzzles I am solving because there was a typically MikeyG thing there that I missed completely. Thanks for the puzzle Mike.
NUDGES!I am always willing to give nudges where needed; metas should be about fun, not frustration. Send me what you have done so far because often you are closer than you think!

A few nudges on Wednesday (it's basically Wednesday, haha).

1. There are actually two things going on in this puzzle; you could argue that one word in the 2-word phrase is pointed to by one element of the puzzle and that the second word is pointed to by another element.

2. For element #1 (and the first word), we have some entries that seem a bit incomplete, per the title!

3. See if you can find all the missing elements for the incomplete entries.

4. More specifically, there are 6 5-letter entries, symmetrically located, that are missing another 5-letter word as part of its entry, which might be either a compound word or a 2-word phrase.

5. There is a lateral connection between those six 5-letter words.

See if that helps! Up to 25 so far, I believe!

I can't wait to see what this typical thing is, but there is something kind of Mikey-esque about this puzzle. We'll see if we agree on what it is afterward! (All the dad jokes notwithstanding.)

Hmm. I already had done everything in the nudges, except solving nudge five. I'll keep thinking.

Finally got it. Nudges didn't help because I had all of that, but fresh eyes finally led me to the solution. Thanks for the puzzle, Mikey!

This has happened to me so many times. The number of times that I
  • begin to type out a message for help
  • come back to it a day or two later
  • take nudges, all of which I already know
and then see the solution is...a lot, haha. (@Bird Lives can tell you I almost took nudges on his recent SSS before finally seeing it!)
