First Acts by Alex Eaton-Salners

Published weekly by expert constructor Peter Gordon, the Fireball crossword is famous for being hard. How hard? Well, in the words of Peter Gordon, if you need to ask, too hard for you! It is not regularly a meta crossword, but does feature a contest or meta puzzle several times throughout the year. Available here for a subscription: http://www.fireballcrosswords.com

Yay, a Fireball meta!
What single letter of the alphabet is hinted at by this puzzle? [NOTE: Since you have a 1-in-26 shot of guessing the letter, you have to include an explanation of how you got the answer. The simplest explanation is the step before the final answer and consists of two words with a total of six letters.]

Rules: Email Fireball the answer no later than 6 p.m. (Eastern time) on Sunday, October 15. Lots of prizes for the randomly-drawn winner.

That was fun! Thanks Alex & Peter
If you want help with a meta, feel free to PM me. The more specific you are about what you have and what you want, the more likely I can help without spoiling.

(And if I help you win a mug, I’ll be especially delighted.)

Nice one. 🌞
The site is just a web page, a meeting place, a clubhouse - it's the group that's special.

I rate Fireball Metas on a simple scale:

No headache
Headache
Migraine
Someone Please Chop My Head Off And Make The Pain Stop

"First Acts" rates as a "No Headache"

Got it but only by asking @Wendy Walker a couple of times ... how'm I doin' here? And by Wendy giving the perfect minimal responses thereto. I thought the payoff/punchline was not that punchy so this one ranks #3 for me this week after the WSJ and MGWCC.
